In the center of downtown Bethesda

Woodmont Triangle, in the heart of downtown Bethesda, has bustling streets, a surplus of local restaurants within walking distance and highly-rated schools. “Woodmont Triangle is very close to all the things happening in downtown Bethesda, but it maintains a little more of a village vibe,” said Dana Scanlon, Realtor with Global Advantage Homes, who has 30 years of experience selling in Bethesda. “It’s more small restaurants, independent shops, hair salons, and things like that.” While the neighborhood is very urban, with retail space anchoring the bulk of the buildings, there’s housing to be found for those looking for low-maintenance condo living or single-family homes with easy commutes to jobs in downtown Bethesda or Washington D.C.

Luxury condos, single-family homes

“It’s a segment of downtown Bethesda, so you’re going to have high-end apartments and very expensive condos,” says Brian Cusick of Cusick Group Realtors, who has been selling in the DMV since 2004. Condos are mainly in luxury high-rise buildings, and prices range from the mid-$500,000s for a one-bedroom property to more than $1 million for two bedrooms. Buyers can also find a few single-family homes on the neighborhood’s eastern edge. They sit on quieter, well-maintained streets with cars parked in front of them. Small 1930s Cape Cods can cost around $800,000, while Craftsman-style homes can run over $2 million.

Walking distance to dining and shopping

Retail and dining are concentrated along nearly every street, with apartments and condos towering overhead, ensuring locals are within walking distance of amenities. After a long day, locals can pick up carryout from Mayflower Chinese or Corner Slice, a pizza shop. “One of the favorites here is the Woodmont Grill,” Cusick says. “The other restaurants tend to come and go, but that one’s been there for a long time.” With its low lighting, high-end ingredients, and frequent live jazz music, it’s a great spot for date night or celebrating a special occasion. For a more casual experience, residents can grab a passion fruit margarita and split an order of ceviche with friends at Casa Oaxaca, one of the more authentic Mexican restaurants around, according to Cusick. There’s also plenty of retail around. Trader Joe’s is within walking distance and popular shopping mall Bethesda Row is within a mile away, “Locals like shopping within Woodmont Triangle because there’s not the mobs of people there that are at Bethesda Row,” says Cusick.

Outdoor recreation and performing arts

Even in such an urban setting, there are recreation opportunities. Battery Lane Park sits on the north end of Woodmont Triangle and has basketball and tennis courts as well as a playground for kids. The Bethesda Trolley Trail, which runs 6 miles through the city on old trolley lines, is accessible from the neighborhood. Kids can take performing arts classes at Imagination Stage, which sits on Auburn Avenue and puts on family-friendly shows, while Bethesda Conservatory of Dance offers classes in various styles, from contemporary to ballet.

Festivals for fine arts and foodies

The free Bethesda Fine Arts Festival, held in the spring, features work from some of the country’s best artists, plus food and live entertainment. In the fall, the neighborhood also hosts the Taste of Bethesda food festival, where attendees can sample offerings from Bethesda’s best restaurants alongside live music.

Public transport in Woodmont Triangle

The neighborhood is highly accessible for those without cars. The Bethesda Circulator, a free city bus, makes its rounds every 10-15 minutes, shuttling neighbors around the neighborhood and downtown Bethesda. And for D.C. commuters, the Bethesda Metro Center is within walking distance.

A's for neighborhood schools

Students are zoned for Montgomery County Public Schools and can attend Bethesda Elementary and Westland Middle School, which earn A grades from Niche. They can finish their public education at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, which boasts an A-plus from Niche and has an International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
