Beulaville is a quiet retreat for military personnel and family farmers
Among the rolling farmland of Duplin County, Beulaville is a rural area with small businesses and direct routes to Richlands, Jacksonville and the Camp Lejeune Marine base. The area has manufacturing jobs along state Highway 41, but there are also family-owned farms throughout Beulaville. Daniel Gallen is a Realtor at Re/Max Elite Realty Group who’s helped clients buy homes in the area. “There is a lot of military out there. It’s common for people to move to Beulaville because they want to get off work, get away from base and feel like a civilian,” Gallen says. “You go to restaurants and see active-duty Marines all the time." Beulaville offers a quiet retreat from busier areas, an escape to be connected to nature and a small community.
Craftsman and ranch-style homes with new development on the rise
Craftsman homes built in the past 10 years tend to sell for $275,000 to $550,000, while slightly older properties can range from $225,000 to $275,000. “There are brand-new subdivisions that are edging into the area,” Gallen says. New homes are usually closer to Richlands in subdivisions like Orchard Creek. Homes spread out across the area often have ranch-style designs and expansive lots, creating plenty of breathing room between neighbors. Manufactured homes are usually in the northern half of the area, selling for $100,000 to $225,000.
Commuters drive to Jacksonville or Camp Lejeune
Streets that cut through downtown Beulaville have sidewalks, but most roads are sidewalk-free, giving residents more yard space. “Beulaville is close to Richlands and Jacksonville,” Gallen says. “It’s quieter, but you're close to everything.” Beulaville Highway turns into U.S. Route 258 on the 27-mile drive to Jacksonville. Camp Lejeune is 46 miles away, a trip that takes about an hour. Ellis Airport, right outside Beulaville, offers regional flights to Charlotte and Atlanta through American Airlines and Delta. Residents on the eastern side of Beulaville might occasionally hear planes overhead.
Residents can request public transportation through the Duplin County Transportation Department. Most places of worship are churches centered around downtown Beulaville, like the historic Beulaville Baptist Church. Goshen Medical Center offers primary care services downtown, but the nearest hospital is ECU Health Duplin Hospital, 11 miles west in Kenansville.
Small parks with frequent community events
The Town of Beulaville Park has playground equipment and an open grassy area to run around with a dog. North of the area is Cabin Lake County Park, which features campgrounds, a swim beach and a boat ramp leading out onto Cabin Creek. Beulaville’s Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Wild Hog Cook Off and Car Show every October, where visitors can compete in eating contests, sample from food vendors and enjoy live music. The chamber also organizes the Annual Christmas Parade.
Mike’s Farm has been a community staple since 1945. Guests can visit in the spring to pick strawberries or join the Easter on the Farm egg hunt. The farm draws crowds in the fall for the Annual Antique Tractor Show in September and pumpkin patch hayrides in October. From January to September, residents can stop by to order fried chicken and side dishes for a farm-to-table meal.
Kids learn close to home in Duplin County schools
The Duplin County Schools district serves the area, earning a B-minus from Niche. Beulaville Elementary gets a C-plus and offers prekindergarten through eighth-grade classes. Students move on to East Duplin High School, which receives a B.
Downtown shopping with more options in Richlands
Most of Beulaville’s businesses are in the center of town, like antique stores and fast-food chains. Beulaville Nursery & Garden Center sells flowers grown in the greenhouse near the store, while Special Collection is a consignment store stocked with clothing and trinkets. Locally owned restaurants see crowds for lunch and dinner, like Ann's Thai Kitchen and Sid's BBQ & Catering. Residents don’t have to go far for groceries since Jackson's IGA Store is off Highway 24, and Whaley's Super Market is down the road. Gallen mentions some people head into Richlands to shop at the Walmart Supercenter or find more restaurants.
