A breath of fresh mountain air
Big Sky has everything under the sun. Abundant in fresh air and natural wonders, this southwestern Montana neighborhood is a dazzling portrait of Rocky Mountain splendor. From plentiful outdoor activities to fine dining, Big Sky has excitement, entertainment and exploration. “People love it because of the gorgeous mountains, pristine rivers and privacy and quiet,” says Cheryl Ridgely, a broker for ERA Landmark Real Estate who has sold several homes in Big Sky. She adds that the area's largest employer is the Big Sky Resort and as it continues to thrive, the neighborhood has grown to support more year-round residents as well. “It has evolved a lot in the last ten years. There’s a full-time high school, and people don’t have to travel to Bozeman anymore to take their kids to school. The hospital arrived in 2015. There are several grocery stores in the community, where before there was never really a full-service one. It’s still in growth transition.” The area also scores significantly low in crime for all categories within the CAP Index.
Big Sky’s homes offer unparalleled views, blending modern amenities with rugged wilderness.
Big Sky is centered around its stunning natural environment, with easy access to national parks.

Big Sky's many parks and recreational activities
No matter the season, Big Sky is always vibrant with people having fun in the great outdoors. Summers can mean hiking along the many trailheads like Ousel Falls, Beehive Basin, and Wilson Peak, and horseback riding into the Madison and Gallatin ranges. There are also lots of lakes, rivers and alpine streams for casting lines for blue ribbon trout and whitewater rafting on the Gallatin. Golfers can enjoy the Big Sky Golf Course which also provides Nordic skiing in the winter. The colder months are perfect for skiing and snowboarding across Big Sky’s 5,580 skiable acres as well as dog sledding and sleigh rides. Big Sky Community Park offers 44 acres for hikes, basketball games and disc golf and Len Hill offers green open space at the heart of Big Sky Town Center. While Yellowstone National Park is 51 miles away, Ridgely says residents and visitors often make the trek from Big Sky.

The different sections of Big Sky's residential areas
Big Sky homes include elegant condos, cozy ranch-styles and custom-built contemporary properties. Scattered all over the mountainous community, some have riverfront views while others are set around the golf course. Ridgely describes some of the different residential areas: “There’s the upper Mountain Village, which is closer to the resort and has many condo properties and a few detached condos. Areas in Beehive Basin area, and some of the Moonlight area have luxury homes and larger land parcels. You have the Meadow Village and the Town Center, which are in the middle mountain area. There’s also a lot of homes in the canyon area, where the river runs along the highway.” Condos fetch anywhere between $600,000 to $14 million, with some requiring club membership. Larger single detached properties run for $1.4-$30 million each. Homes typically remain on the market for 133 days.

Gourmet pizzas, craft beers, local grocers and community events
The local shopping and dining scene in Big Sky brings plenty of options. Blue Moon Bakery makes generously sized sandwiches and gourmet pizzas with quirky cosmic names like Shooting Star and Northern Lights. Caliber Coffee Roasters serves locally roasted java in a warm, inviting space and Beehive Basin Brewery is a microbrewery where patrons can enjoy drinks and mountain views from the taproom. Locally-owned Hungry Moose Market and Deli offers quick grocery runs, while Roxy’s Market and The Country Market of Big Sky are also available. Big Sky Town Center is a hub for shopping, dining and entertainment. It doubles as a spot for many community events, including farmer’s markets, summer concerts and an annual rodeo in July.

Montana Route 64 (Lone Mountain Trail) runs for nine miles along the northern edge of Big Sky and connects drivers to Highway 191. Stretching for about 442 miles, this highway extends as far north as the Montana/ Canadian border and its southernmost end is in Douglas, Arizona. It is also one of the busiest roadways in the state and is also considered one of America’s most scenic highways, thanks to its breathtaking mountain views. For air travelers, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is about 45 miles away when using US-191 N. The local hospital is Big Sky Medical Center, owned and operated by Bozeman Health.
