Neighbors catch up at SAW's Juke Joint
There are a few restaurants in and around the neighborhood where "you'll see a lot of familiar faces," White says. She explains that a little retail strip sits "right, smack in the middle of Crestline." "It's nice because you don't have to drive there; you can just walk right over." At the Tudor-style strip mall, SAW's Juke Joint is a popular hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving "really good barbecue and great hamburgers," White reveals. Locals can walk just a few doors down to Slice Pizza & Brew and take home a 14-inch custom pizza. "Over there by SAW's," she says, "They also have an independent bakery – which is delicious – and there's a pick-up-your-dinner catering place too." The caterer, Dish'n It Out, has frozen or fresh casseroles available for pickup every day of the week. When they do feel like cooking at home, residents can drive over to the neighborhood Publix.1960s-style homes and new construction townhomes
A two-lane thoroughfare winds through Crestline, passing by street-facing homes and small residential boroughs. Along the main road, tall pines tower over 1960s ranch-style homes with low-pitched roofs stretching across retro carports. The quieter off-shoot streets, many of which end in cul-de-sacs, are lined with similar ranch-style homes, split levels and some cozy bungalows, too. Close to the center of Crestline, some contemporary Tudor-style townhomes are within walking distance of the Publix. Throughout the neighborhood, most yards are kept well-maintained, with tall trees providing plenty of shade during Alabama's scorching summer months. In Crestline, most of the older, unrenovated homes list between $250,000 and $400,000, while the updated homes, complete with modern interiors and stainless-steel appliances, cost closer to $600,000. Still, some of the three-bedroom new-construction townhomes can cost upwards of $700,000.A hidden park sits in the middle of Crestline
Kids can walk or ride bikes to Crestline Park, in the heart of the neighborhood. Complete with slides and swings, the playground sits on a large grassy field encompassed by a line of trees and neighborhood homes. While it is hidden, neighbors can access the park using "the three entrances tucked between the [surrounding] homes," White says. Nearby, Irondale Furnace Trail is a popular spot for local dog walkers.10-mile drive to Downtown Bham
Crestline sits fewer than 10 miles east of Downtown Birmingham. Commuters can follow Montevallo Road north and hop on Interstate 20 to quickly access downtown and the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. During football season, locals head south on I-20 to watch the Crimson Tide play at Bryant-Denny Stadium in the heart of Tuscaloosa.Teens get a head start on college at Woodlawn High School
