A mix of residential and industrial in southeast Blacksburg
The Blacksburg neighborhood of Ellett-Jennelle is divided into two parts: apartments and homes on the north end and an industrial park on the south side. The houses are separated from industrial businesses by distance and forests, but they’re close enough to make for a rapid commute if a resident works at one of the manufacturers or Virginia Tech labs. The entire neighborhood hugs South Main Street, which acts as a direct path to downtown Blacksburg or the U.S. Route 460 bypass that connects to Interstate 81. Ellett-Jennelle is part of southeast Blacksburg, generally considered a calmer side of town with fewer Virginia Tech students than the northeastern quadrant. Still, the abundance of rentals and bus stops means students are also drawn to the neighborhood.

The brewery serves as an after-work hangout, a gameday weekend watering hole and even a wedding venue. People can make quick shopping runs at the neighborhood CVS, or they can head a half-mile north on Main Street to access a pair of shopping centers. Stores include Kroger supermarket, Asian grocer Oasis World Market, breakfast spot Hello Bagel and Dollar Tree. New Life Christian Fellowship holds two Sunday services, with one tailored to Virginia Tech students.
