For a day of fun, Blacksburg Municipal Park is just south of the neighborhood, and it includes a disc golf course, sports courts and playgrounds, as well as indoor sports courts and a gym at the Blacksburg Community Center and Blacksburg Aquatic Center. “We also have ‘passive parks’ like Heritage Park, which was an old dairy farm, and Huckleberry Trail runs through it,” says Dean Crane, the Director of Parks and Recreation in Blacksburg. He has been working in the Blacksburg area for over 34 years. The Huckleberry Trail spans about 15 miles and is the area’s main trail. “It can take you all the way from Blacksburg to Christiansburg, and you wouldn’t have to get in or out of a car.” Right in the Main-Patrick Henry neighborhood, the Go Race Ranch has a few miles of test trails for beginner and advanced off-road dirt biking and mountain biking. It’s part of the Go Race Suspension company, which services motorcycles, ATVs and other vehicles. Residents may be able to hear bikers if their homes are nearby.Montgomery County Public Schools and Virginia Tech
Grade school students in Main-Patrick Henry are often zoned to start at Harding Avenue Elementary School, which is graded an A and is considered the No. 2 best public elementary school in Montgomery County on Niche. All area students can then move on to Blacksburg Middle School, which is graded a B-plus, and then finally to Blacksburg High School, which is graded an A-plus. Many neighborhood residents are college students attending Virginia Tech nearby, which is a top research university and is famous for its Hokies football games. “We’re in a very unique part of the country. Here, it’s a quaint college town, but our population can grow from 20,000 to 65,000 during football season,” Crane says. “You can get here in about four hours from NOVA, so if it’s a 1:00 pm kickoff, you could travel down, tailgate, watch the game, and get home by 8:00 pm. Or stay overnight; a lot of alumni buy a condo just for the football games from August through November.”Annual festivals, events and the Blacksburg Farmers Market
Blacksburg may be famous for its football games, but the community also hosts events all year long. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is held downtown on Saturdays and Wednesdays from April through October and on Saturdays in November and December. It sometimes features tastings, craft fairs or art exhibitions. Steppin’ Out is a street fair with vendors, food and crafts for sale each August. The area also hosts a Christmas parade and Halloween events, and in April, shoppers can check out the Vintage Market, where vendors sell vintage clothing, accessories, books or housewares.Short commutes into downtown Blacksburg

For those who need to travel to Christiansburg, drivers can head south via Route 460 for about 11 miles. For commercial flights, Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport is about 40 miles northeast of Blacksburg.Downtown Blacksburg hotspots and student nightlife
