Mid-century ranch-style residences and townhouses
The single-family homes within this neighborhood are primarily ranch-style dwellings, split-levels and bi-levels. Most of these houses were built during the mid to late 20th century: “Virginia Tech went through a growing spurt in the 60s and 70s, and there were a lot of houses built during that time,” says Amy Hudson, broker/owner of RE/MAX 8 and Blacksburg resident. “When we got to the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a housing boom before the bust of the recession, and it wasn’t until around 2013 that we started to see home building come back online.” Many of these properties also feature paved driveways, attached garages and well-maintained front yards dotted with trees. Those looking to live in this neighborhood also have several apartment options, including the Chasewood Apartments, the Sundance Village Apartments and the Union Blacksburg community. A majority of single-family homes here cost between $350,000 and $550,000, while townhouses can range from $200,000 to $400,000.Proximity to Blacksburg Municipal Park
McBryde residents have proximity to several outdoor parks and recreational areas; within the neighborhood itself is the Gilbert Linkous Elementary School and its on-site playground and blacktop. A few blocks northwest of McBryde is the Blacksburg Municipal Park, which features a large playground complex, baseball fields, picnic shelters and tennis courts. Adjacent to the park are the Blacksburg Aquatic Center, the Blacksburg Community Center and the Blacksburg Skatepark. Directly south of McBryde is the Virginia Tech Golf Course, which offers memberships for the greater Virginia Tech and Blacksburg community. Hudson says that locals can also find pedestrian-only greenways all throughout Blacksburg: “The town is huge with trails – they have a committee that mandates that trails are built through all subdivisions,” she says, adding that one of the most popular trails is the Huckleberry Trail, which runs all the way down to Christiansburg.K-12 students served by Montgomery County Public Schools

Young learners can attend Gilbert Linkous Elementary School, an A-rated institution in the middle of McBryde that serves pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Students can then head to Blacksburg Middle School, rated B-plus, and later on, Blacksburg High School, which receives an A rating and was among Niche’s top 25 “Best Public High Schools in Virginia” list in 2024. Bordering the Route 460 Bypass

U.S. Route 460 Bypass borders McBryde and travels through Blacksburg and down to nearby Christiansburg, making it one of the largest thoroughfares in the area. Route 460 also connects to Interstate 81 in Christiansburg, which leads to the city of Roanoke approximately 40 miles away. Within Roanoke is the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, where a variety of domestic flights are operated by Delta, American Airlines, Allegiant and United. McBryde residents can also access bus service and routes operated by Blacksburg Transit; stops can be found along Toms Creek Road, University City Boulevard and Prices Fork Road.
