A family-oriented neighborhood on the east side of Bloomington
Oakridge is a Bloomington neighborhood focused on families. “We take a lot of pride in the social activities we do for the kids,” says Jeff Callahan, president of the Oakridge Property Owners Association. “That’s something we work hard at.” The neighborhood offers a field where kids can play soccer and other sports, a pool just for Oakridge residents and tennis courts that have been lined to double as pickleball courts.
Clearwater Park features expansive green space and plenty of biking trails.

Community events for the kids
“We have a lot of events for the kids throughout the year, so that brings the families together,” Callahan says. “We have a campout movie night, a huge easter egg hunt and a lot of other events. But our biggest is probably the 4th of July.” Oakridge celebrates the 4th of July with a kids parade, summer Olympic games for the kids and local food trucks. The Easter Egg Hunt is held each Easter at the Gazebo, where the neighborhood’s Movie Night and Campout is held. The property association organizes firepits for the campout, and families gather ‘round to enjoy s’mores.
Traditional homes with basements
“The neighborhood’s been around long enough that you’re not going to have a house with an original roof. Updates have been made to the homes, and the basements have been finished,” says Greg Zavitz, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group, who’s sold homes in the area for over thirty years. Oakridge’s first homes were built in the mid-1980s, and by the late 1990s, the neighborhood was completely filled out. Callahan says completion of the neighborhood took about 15 years, but now there are about 218 homes in Oakridge. Home styles range from ranch-style homes to traditional two-story homes, and prices range from $290,000 to $400,000. The median home price is $341,000.

Noise is no concern
While the airport sits next to Oakridge, Callahan and Zavitz say the neighborhood doesn’t suffer from excessive noise. “Back in the 80s, the main runway came over us,” Callahan says. “Fortunately, after about ’93, they renovated the airport and redirected the main entry runway to run east to west. So currently, nothing flies over us anymore.”
