High school students can also participate in dual enrollment classes at Heartland Community College, where they can earn college credits in subjects like biology, chemistry, oral communication, and United States history. St. Mary’s School is an additional private option for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

While parks and recreational spaces are available, they are not abundant. Alton Depot Park, featuring a playground and access to Constitution Trail, is a favorite spot for community residents. Friendship Park also has a playground.

Transportation options include Connect Transit and Central Illinois Regional Airport
The Connect Transit public bus system serves the area with at least seven stops, making public transportation a viable option. However, most residents travel by car, Lockenour says. West Front street takes locals to downtown, less than a mile away, where the McClean County Museum of history is. Illinois State Route 9 is a major highway close to West Bloomington which goes towards the Central Illinois Regional Airport 5 miles away. The highway feeds into US Highway 150 and Interstate 74 which goes to Peoria 37 miles away and the Indiana state line.
