Bloxom offers secluded country living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland
A rural community on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Bloxom offers secluded country living with access to beaches on both coasts of the peninsula. Buyers move here for its quieter and more affordable lifestyle than Chincoteague while still having small-town charm and access to some of Maryland’s best beaches. Its mix of historic homes and land listings gives buyers the opportunity to pick between classic farmhouse living and building the country estate of their dreams. With just a convenience store, a bakery and a diner in town, residents have access to the essentials they need without having to drive out of Bloxom.
No neighbors in sight in this farmhouse community
Bloxom typically has a mix of single-family homes and land for sale. Architectural offerings include ranch-style, farmhouse, Cape Cod and Colonial homes, and land listings can range from 1 to nearly 200 acres. This is a very rural community, so most homes sit on several acres without any neighbors in sight. Recent sales prices for single-family homes range from around $100,000 to $450,000, while land listings start around $20,000 and can reach as high as $500,000.

Students at Arcadia High School can specialize in career and technical education pathways such as building trades, computer systems technology and welding.
Guard Shore Beach and Assateague Beach
On the west end of Bloxom, Guard Shore Beach is a rocky waterfront spot on Beasley Bay. Residents can go here for swimming, fishing, searching for shells and kayaking. For an ocean beach, residents can drive 25 miles northwest to Assateague Beach on Chincoteague Island. “In my opinion, it’s the best beach on the Eastern Shore of Virginia,” says Realtor Ben Clark with Dockside Properties. Clark mentions that fishing is popular on Chincoteague Island, and also that the community is known for its oysters. “The oysters in Chincoteague were mentioned in The Federalist Papers,” he says.
A small downtown area
Bloxom has a very small downtown area with a few churches, a small convenience store, an auto shop, a volunteer fire department and Grace Galore, a locally owned bakery. Grace Galore sells homemade sweet treats like brownies, cake pops and cupcakes, with sugar- and gluten-free options available. Bloxom has one restaurant, Roma’s Diner & Pizzeria, a longtime, locally owned establishment that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Residents can get snacks and some groceries from the Royal Farms and Cordova Mexican Store on the east of the neighborhood. Fresh eggs and produce are available 4 miles south at Taste of Eden Produce in Parksley.
