Boaz, a city on the Sand Mountain plateau in Northeast Alabama’s Marshall County, has undergone substantial change. In the 1980s, it was home to more than 100 outlet stores that attracted around five million shoppers each year. Though the outlets slowly lost customers over the years and have since closed or moved elsewhere, the town adapted. Today, the city has more than 10,000 residents, many of whom work in the automotive and rail manufacturing industries. Boaz, named for a Biblical character, has several churches that remain a large part of its community.
The town is close to Albertville, a shopping and recreation hub, and Guntersville, a vacation destination on Guntersville Lake. “There’s a lot of business coming to Marshall County, with a Target and steakhouses and other restaurants,” says Rachel Weiss, an associate broker with Weiss Realty LLC. “In Boaz, you have access to all of that.”

It can take drivers to Albertville, about 5 miles away, or to Guntersville, around 15 miles away. “All of 431 can get jammed up at busy times of day, but it clears pretty fast since it is a four-lane highway,” Weiss says. Huntsville is nearly 55 miles northwest. Huntsville International Airport, nearly 70 miles away, has flights to several U.S. destinations. Marshall Medical Center South is a 150-bed hospital with a Level III emergency department.
