Boca del Mar blends housing variety with many, many nearby amenities
The planned community of Boca del Mar may not technically be a part of Boca Raton, but locals consider it a big part of what they call “Central Boca.” Francine Bisson, a Realtor with Re/Max Select Group who sells throughout Palm Beach County, says the community’s location is one of its main selling points. “It matters because not everyone wants to live on the beach, but people don’t necessarily want to live really far west either. This is right in the middle of everything,” she says. Not only do Boca del Mar’s residents have a huge variety of housing options to choose from, they have restaurants, houses of worship, a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and proximity to some of the city’s best shopping centers, parks, country clubs and beaches.
Housing ranges from high-rise condos to ranch-style homes
Condos are popular here. One-, two- or three-bedroom options are available in various complexes, including tall high rises and sprawling subdivisions. Most have clubhouses with community pools. Some are gated, adding extra security. Prices range from around $200,000 to $450,000. Single family homes are a mix of New Traditional and ranch-style, with anywhere from two to six bedrooms. They sit close together on neatly landscaped lawns that feature grass, palm trees and shrubs. Backyards sometimes contain in-ground pools. Driveways and garages are common. Prices for single-family homes typically start at $400,000 and go up to $1.3 million, with higher-priced homes often featuring recent renovations, upgraded appliances and a little more land. A small selection of two- and three-bedroom townhouses are also available, ranging from around $320,000 to around $800,000, with higher-priced units sporting fresh renovations and higher-end appliances. They often sit in complexes that provide access to community pools and clubhouses. Throughout Boca del Mar, HOA fees are common and vary by subdivision. Because hurricanes are possible in the area, nearly all houses and condos feature high impact windows and doors.
A-rated public schools are zoned to the community
The School District of Palm Beach County serves the community and rates an A-minus on Niche. The district offers magnet programs, career academies, and controlled open enrollment, allowing students to attend schools beyond their zoned boundaries. Admission is primarily through a lottery system, contingent on space and program eligibility. Kids can attend A-minus-rated Del Prado Elementary, A-minus-rated Omni Middle and A-plus-rated Spanish River Community High. The high school offers multiple clubs and organizations including a tabletop gaming club, Boca Helping Hands Club and Trinkets of Hope, a body positivity awareness club. For those interested in a faith-based private school option within the community, St. Jude Catholic School is on Palmetto Circle North.
Golf, kayaking and biking are popular ways to stay active
Silver Palm Park features a boat and kayak launch and is a popular spot for fishing. Pinewood Park has baseball fields, picnic areas and a playground with separate play structures for younger and older kids. Golfers can join the private Via Mizner Golf & City Club off Boca Del Mar Drive, which has an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus course, or check out any of the additional clubs outside the neighborhood. Sugar Sand Park is just outside the neighborhood and offers walking paths, a playground and splashpad, outdoor fitness equipment, an outdoor rink for roller hockey and a carousel. Within the park is the Children’s Science Explorium, which has indoor activities for kids from five to 12 years old. Boca Raton’s many beaches, including the popular Red Reef Park, are within 10 miles. Some residents get exercise simply biking around Boca Raton. “There are more bike paths now that were not there 20 or 30 years ago. But in the last five years, [the city’s] made an effort to add more,” Bisson says. For indoor recreation, some residents can utilize their subdivisions’ fitness rooms, and others can join the Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton located on Palmetto Circle South.
Residents shop in the community or head to Mizner Park and Town Center
Residents can shop for groceries at Publix and Grove Kosher Market, utilize services and dine out at restaurants at shopping centers near Powerline Road. Restaurant options include a mix of national chains, regional chains, and Angela’s Pizza Kitchen, a locally owned spot that also serves stromboli, pasta and subs. More shopping and dining options are nearby, including the popular Mizner Park, an open-air, upscale shopping center about 5 miles away, and Town Center at Boca Raton, a bustling indoor mall about 3 miles away with retailers ranging from Bath & Body Works to Tiffany & Co.
Easy access to I-95, Florida’s Turnpike and local thoroughfares
PalmTran buses stop along Palmetto Park Road. The closest hospital, West Boca Medical Center, is about 4 miles away via Palmetto Park Road. Military Trail and Powerline Road are the community’s other major thoroughfares and travel to the rest of Boca Raton. Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95 are conveniently close. Palm Beach International Airport is around 30 miles away.
