Coveted community northwest of Boise
The Collister neighborhood represents much of what the Treasure Valley offers, with towering mountain ranges and a mature canopy of trees to the east and the Boise Metro skyline to the south. Collister is becoming a coveted neighborhood with large lots, low population density and an ag overlay close to town. "When they were built, it was a way from downtown, but now it's just minutes away," Greg Williams, The President of Collister Neighborhood Associates, says. The community continues to keep the small-town community feel with events and ideas to bring people together. "We are launching a garden tour this year, where we will look at about ten gardens people volunteered to have toured in June," Williams says. "It could turn into a big, nice event". The neighborhood also hosts an annual picnic in August to meet neighbors and share food, games, music, and more.

Easy access to the Greenbelt and Foothills
The Treasure Valley offers easy access to several outdoor activities and natural amenities surrounding the City of Trees. "The cool thing is we have access to the Greenbelt and the Foothills," Williams says. "We can get to those places each in about five minutes." The Greenbelt is a 25-mile pathway along the Boise River with several trails and walking paths, while the Foothills is where people go hiking and mountain biking. Silver Lake is a stone's throw south of West State Street, where people can enjoy popular pastimes like swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Catalpa Park is a more traditional park setting, with a perimeter walking path, playground, sports courts and a horseshoe pit.

An easy place to bike
There is little public transportation in Collister outside a few bus stops on State Street that aren't used very often. Despite limited public transportation options, residents still have many options to get around the area. "The density is low, so it is easy to walk or bike," Williams says. "Our neighborhood logo is a person biking." Commuting to downtown Boise is a little over seven miles away, so a vehicle is necessary. People looking to catch a flight will travel about 14 miles south to the Boise Airport.

Casual hangouts and stores on State Street
Collister is primarily a residential neighborhood with a limited selection of restaurants, shops and other amenities. "We don't have a ton of places to go out," Williams says. "People head to one of the nearby areas or downtown for that." There are casual hangouts along West State Street on the southern side of the neighborhood, like Capitol Bar and Boise Juice Company. Candy's Café is a local family restaurant that serves American food classics like hamburgers and shakes. Corona Village Mexican Restaurant has served traditional Mexican fare to the Treasure Valley for over 25 years. Albertsons are along State Street to the Northwest and Southeast of the neighborhood. People must visit other areas for big-name retailers like Target and Walmart.

I don't have much experience with crime in the area but I know it exists. Drug usage is a common offence. Gun violence might also be a problem in some areas.

There are jobs available, but they may not be exactly what people are looking for. Low pay and not so great hours.
