With serene surroundings and scenic vistas of Lake George, Bolton Landing has a rich history of attracting both summer vacationers and artists looking to awaken their creativity. “During the summertime, it’s one of the greatest places on the planet. Its population probably expands by a hundredfold,” says Daniel Davies, a broker with Davies-Davies & Associates Real Estate who has been selling homes in the area for over 35 years. One of the community’s most well-known vacationers is Marcella Sembrich, a world-famous opera singer whose 1920s Spanish Revival estate now serves as the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum. While the community thrives in the summertime, the cold weather months come with a stillness that extends beyond the blanket of snow that covers the lakefront. “It’s a quaint little community; there are only about 12 kids that graduate from the class each year,” Davies says. Bolton Landing is about 10 miles north of the lively Village of Lake George, and while the hamlet has a reputation for being a bit more secluded than the village, it’s home to an abundance of local amenities. Shops and restaurants line New York State Route 9N — locally known as Lake Shore Drive — and the lake’s Green Island is home to The Sagamore Resort, an upscale Victorian-style hotel that attracts visitors year-round.

Sandy beaches, marinas and more on Lake George
Bolton Landing embraces its lakefront location with ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. In fact, Lake George is nicknamed the Queen of American Lakes due to its abundance of attractions and miles of shoreline. Rogers Memorial Park features basketball and tennis courts, a playground and a covered pavilion home to the Bolton Summer Concert Series. The 18-hole Sagamore Golf Course is about a 2-mile drive north of Bolton Landing. Residents are also less than 3 miles east of The Pinnacle, a 73-acre nature preserve where hikers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers can follow a 1-mile trail to the Pinnacle summit and enjoy panoramic views of Lake George and the Tongue Mountain Range.
Closer to shore is Rogers Memorial Park Beach, where residents can spread out their towels in the sand before wading into the waters of Lake George. Norowal Marina has a public boat launch, while the private Bolton Landing Marina provides a place for members to store their boats year-round. Over on Green Island, Lake George Kayak Co. offers kayak, canoe and paddleboard rentals.
While Bolton Landing’s population may decrease in the winter, its recreational activities only change form. Lake George typically freezes over in mid-January, and ice fishing attracts anglers looking to catch trout or salmon. The community is also less than a 30-mile drive from all three of the Lake George area’s premier ski resorts: Gore Mountain, West Mountain and the Hickory Ski Center.

Summer concerts and film screenings at The Sembrich
Like the rest of Bolton Landing, The Sembrich comes alive each summer with a packed calendar of events. From June to August, the museum hosts film screenings, scholarly discussions and live musical performances. Neighbors also gather for community events hosted by the Bolton Landing Chamber of Commerce, including Bolton’s Independence Day Celebration at Rogers Memorial Park.
Custom-built estates and rustic log cabins
From Adirondack-style log cabins to sprawling ranch-style homes and custom-built lakefront properties, Bolton Landing’s charming community has made it one of the most popular destinations on Lake George. “It is the most desired area on the lake. Truthfully, from a price-value standpoint, it is without a doubt the most expensive spot to be,” Davies says. Cozy Adirondack-style cabins feature spacious wrap-around porches, while waterfront homes offer private docks and lake access. The most expensive homes sit along Lake Shore Drive, which became known as Millionaire’s Row in the 20th century as prominent businessmen built lavish summer estates along the shores of Lake George. Prices for single-family homes range from around $500,000 for a smaller ranch-style home further from the water to $1.5 million for a lakefront oasis. “There's a lot of opportunity and a lot of different price points. That’s what makes it so unique, ” Davies says. Over on Green Island, The Sagamore features two-bedroom condos starting at around $1 million.

A walkable downtown along Lake Shore Drive
Known as downtown Bolton Landing, Lake Shore Drive is a popular destination for shopping and dining. An eclectic mix of shops and restaurants sit along its wide sidewalks, although many local businesses operate seasonally alongside the summer rush. Residents can hunt for one-of-a-kind treasures at Black Bass Antiques or pick up a sweet treat at Mrs. Whizzy Fizz Popp’s Candy. The dining scene ranges from casual spots like Neuffer’s Deli to fine-dining establishments like The Chateau on the Lake, known for its French-inspired dishes and intimate, candlelit interior. Bolton Landing Brewing Company has craft beers on tap year-round, and its rustic tasting room provides a place for neighbors to gather long after sunset. Tops Friendly Markets is in the heart of downtown, and residents can pick up fresh produce at the Bolton Landing Farmers Market each Friday from June to August. There are also several houses of worship tucked off Lake Shore Drive, including the Bolton Community Church and Blessed Sacrament Church.

Low student-teacher ratio at the Bolton Central School

Proximity to the Adirondack Northway
Bolton Landing lacks public transportation and is largely car-dependent. Lake Shore Drive connects to major thoroughfares like Interstate 87, which locals know as the Adirondack Northway. The thoroughfare is about a 10-mile drive south of the hamlet and leads 70 miles south to Albany and 65 miles to the Albany International Airport.
