Sorrento
Lovers Key Beach and all it offers
Two miles across Spring Creek Channel sits the sandy expanse of Lovers Key Beach. Residents can swim in its emerald waters or relax under the shade of an umbrella on a sunny afternoon. The beach is a state park with five miles of trails ideal for a day hike. Bicyclists are also welcome to traverse the area, where they might spot egrets or herons at the water’s edge. Back inside, check out the discovery center’s various wildlife and plants exhibits. There are also kayaks and canoes available for rent. For those not wanting to explore the waters alone, staff offer guided tours for groups atop kayaks and paddle boards.Views atop towering condo complexes
Unlike communities farther inland, Sorrento’s streets leave much of the wooded areas around them natural and undeveloped. A handful of short, almost inconspicuous streets reach out towards the coast, hosting condominium complexes that scrape the skyline. Even the lower floors provide stunning views of the surrounding trees and shore. More reserved and conservative-looking condo buildings with fewer than five floors rest beneath the shade of their larger siblings and provide views of manufactured ponds rather than the ocean. Three bedrooms and 2,000 or so square feet are the usual accommodations in the towers, with amenities such as pools, tennis courts and complimentary kayaks. Pricing for such views starts at $800,000 for smaller units and reaches north of $3 million for 4,000-square-foot corner units.Must-dos in greater Bonita Springs
A plethora of events occur year-round in the greater Bonita Springs Area. Folks can attend seasonal happenings like the Downtown Trick or Treat on Halloween. Kids have four hours to collect as much candy as they can carry. Two recurring favorites are the Bonita Springs Concert Band and the Stardust Memories Big Band, playing multiple times during the year. The Concert Band offers free admissions to their shows, which include a variety of genres, from classical to rock to Broadway.Dining in at the Colony Bay Club
Condo residents have access to both formal and casual dining areas, both exclusive. “The Colony Bay Club is a dining facility where residents get to know one another. It’s a great way to meet new people who just moved in,” says Marcotte. Immediately north sits the Hyatt and its accompanying restaurants, like Tarpon Bay, a seafood establishment offering exciting twists on fresh catches. Locals can feast on savory meats down the road at Rodizio Grill Brazilian Steakhouse. Servers bring skewers of all sorts tableside and carve fresh pieces. Shopping is conveniently located nearby, too. Publix has all the grocery basics one would need. A short drive south culminates at DeRomo’s Italian Market. Folks can stock up on preserves, olive oil, and a variety of fresh pastries.Getting the grade in Sorrento
Between weekends on the beach, kids in Sorrento attend Spring Creek Elementary, rated B by Niche. They offer student-run news programs, extracurriculars that simulate working at a news station. Bonita Springs Middle Center for the Arts has plenty of fun clubs for kids to join, like creative writing and Latin dance. Rounding out the list is Bonita Springs High, a public school accommodating students from eighth to twelfth grade. It earns a B-minus overall from Niche.Consider bicycling around Sorrento
Public transportation is hard to come by because this neighborhood is so tiny and tucked off to the coast. While bicycling is great for getting from point A to B among these condo towers and beaches, a car is needed to access the surrounding neighborhoods and cities.
