Boody offers quiet country living in central Illinois
Boody is a sparsely-populated rural destination surrounded by the cornfields and farmland of central Illinois. While it is often found on lists of U.S. places with funny or awkward names, to those who call Boody home it’s a quiet country escape. The community is far enough off the beaten path to offer a tranquil residential setting, yet close enough to the amenities of Decatur, the Macon County seat.
A small collection of homes on spacious lots
Homes here are concentrated on narrow streets near Illinois Route 48, which runs through the community. Colonial is the most notable architectural influence among the diverse mix of homes. Ranch is the most common style. Regardless of design, homes typically offer plenty of space. Barns and auxiliary buildings are a common sight. Acreage homes can be found on the community’s outskirts. The median sales price is $230,000. Residents experience a typical Midwest climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Central Illinois is known as a region with a lot of tornadoes.
Local school district is rated B-minus by Niche.
The community is served by Meridian Community Unit School District No. 15, which is rated B-minus by Niche. Meridian Elementary, Middle and High schools are located within 6-7 miles. Meridian High School recently gained approval for its first College and Career Pathway Endorsement program, which will focus on health care. The district is working to add additional pathway programs in subjects as varied as welding, finance and information technology.
Decatur, Macon offer shopping and dining options
Boody General Store sells furniture and other antiques, but for most shopping needs, a trip outside the community is required. Decatur offers several shopping centers, grocery stores and a popular downtown commercial and entertainment district. For residents who don’t want to make the trip into the city, there are dining options in nearby Macon.
Community has a small park, is close to popular conservation area
Warren Park is a small community green space with a playground and gazebo. Macon has a larger park with more amenities. Rock Springs Conservation Area is a 1,300-acre destination on the outskirts of Decatur. It features a nature center and is a popular spot for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers. Decatur has an array of amenities-filled parks and a zoo. Running through the city is the Sangamon River, which offers plenty of fun for outdoors enthusiasts.
State highway provides access into Decatur
Illinois 48 provides the quickest route into the heart of Decatur, about an 8-mile drive. The largest city in Macon County is the center of regional employment. There are two full-service hospitals and a commercial airport in Decatur. There’s a post office and a bank in Macon, about 6 miles from the community. Nearby Interstate 72 connects residents to the state capital of Springfield, about 40 miles away.
