The district serves 1,300 students, and Niche ranks it in the top 5 of Mississippi districts with the best teachers and in the top 20 of overall best districts in Mississippi. In addition to the school system's academics, it also has a significant athletic program. In 2025, the Booneville Blue Devils and the Lady Devil's basketball teams won the Prentiss County championship tournament.

Community events at the Triangle
Booneville is home to several parks, ranging from the small Pocket Park, which offers a free library, to the beloved Triangle, which is the focal point of many of the city's festivals and events. The community also offers access to the unique WM Browning Cretaceous Fossil Park, a forested site where visitors can dig and collect fossils as much as 75 million years old. Another local favorite is Bay Springs Lake, which offers boating, fishing, hiking and camping.

Church Street is undergoing a rebirth
Most of this main street-centric community's businesses are between South Second Street and West Church Street. "The downtown area is undergoing a huge renovation right now," says Tapp. New shops, restaurants and event spaces are moving into the area's original buildings, like the historic Barnett House. The restored Craftsman-style residence now hosts events like receptions, showers and tea parties. Malls and big box stores are found about 30 miles away in Tupelo. The community is also known for its celebrations, such as its annual Christmas parade, fall festival and spring arts festival. These events bring residents and visitors to Booneville to gather, connect with their neighbors and continue community traditions.
