However, many people prefer not to deal with city traffic, and instead take advantage of ample access to MBTA buses and the commuter rail. “Most homes are within walking distance of at least three different bus stops, and the area is about 1 mile from the commuter train,” says Michelle Lane, broker and owner of Michelle Lane Real Estate, who has sold in the area before. “It’s a bit of a farther walk than other neighborhoods, but it’s still considerably walkable.” The Needham Line serves the West Roxbury station and can usually get commuters downtown within an hour. The trip to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, another major employer, also takes around an hour by bus. Jobs in health care are available closer to home at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center, which borders the neighborhood.
