Outdoor recreation within state parks and historic resorts
Eldorado Canyon State Park is the area’s primary outdoor recreation area and spans the neighborhood’s western side. A pass is required to enter the park, and timed entry reservations are needed for parking in May through September. “Spring through fall is the busiest time, when you’ll see all the short-term visitors. The parking lots are full and the trails occupied,” says Joshua Zelcer, a broker associate with Brokers Guild Real Estate, who has almost 10 years of experience.
The state park’s sandstone cliffs are famous for world-class rock climbing, with over 500 technical routes. Outdoor enthusiasts can also go picnicking, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fly fishing along South Boulder Creek. Multiple trails wind through the park:
Fowler Trail travels to the Continental Divide Overlook, where you can see panoramic views of canyons and mountains.
The Marshall Mesa Trail allows horseback riding.
Rattlesnake Gulch explores the ruins of Crags Hotel, a luxury hotel that operated from 1908 to 1912 when it was destroyed by a fire.
Another outdoor attraction is the Eldorado Springs Resort & Pool. The resort opened in 1905, commercializing the area’s natural mineral water pools. Known as the “Coney Island of the West,” it is still open today and provides jobs for the community.

The natural risks of living in Eldorado Springs
The area’s natural landscape comes with seasonal challenges. “Weather exposure could mean more upkeep [for homes],” Zelcer says. “Internet and cell service can be spotty.” Additionally, heavy rain can cause South Boulder Creek to flood the roads. There’s also a risk of potential wildfires in the warmer months. Mountain View Fire Rescue Station 9 is located along Eldorado Springs Drive and responds to both fire-related and medical emergencies in the area.
