While the name San Castle may conjure images of a structure that crumbles when hit, the residential Boynton Beach neighborhood is strong, fortified by a diverse community. A miniature food pantry initiative started in 2019 gives easy access to pasta and vegetables for people who need them. The Palm Beach County Police Athletic League’s San Castle organization holds sporting events at San Castle Community Park and assists with homework, all for free. Large driveways allow residents to host others at their homes for events. “Residents are respectful and wave to one another,” says Michelle Galletto, a realtor with London Foster Realty.

Ranch homes and Pine Point Villas
The neighborhood primarily features ranch-style homes built in the 1950s and 1960s. They are nestled between coconut trees and other subtropical trees on the community's narrow streets. Sidewalks on main roads make walking to grocery stores and restaurants an option. Homes colored bright shades of blue, pink or orange stand out. Homes typically range from $165,000 to $435,000. The neighborhood also features 55+ communities Pine Point Villas and Pointe Overlook Condos. Housing in those communities typically ranges from $100,000 to $190,000. The neighborhood is known to flood during heavy rainstorms, making driving difficult, but changes are coming. In June 2024, Boynton Beach announced a $16.5 million overhaul of the neighborhood’s stormwater drainage system.

Convenience within Palm Beach County and beyond
The community is next to I-95, making access to neighboring attractions like Delray Public Beach convenient. Palm Tran Public Transportation bus stops along North Seacrest Boulevard connect riders to attractions in Palm Beach County. HCA Florida JFK Hospital is less than 5 miles away. Travelers can drive 40 miles south to reach Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Scrub areas give a glimpse of wildlife
Early risers can head to Lantana Municipal Beach, 2.5 miles away, for a secluded spot to watch the sunrise. Hikers can trek through Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area, which has trails and an observation tower that offers a bird’s eye view of 98 acres of former wetland habitat. The smaller Rosemary Scrub Natural Area offers similar amenities. “You can sit in the morning and watch birds and turtles within each,” Galletto says. “It is the perfect place for those who love nature.” San Castle Community Park has a half-sized basketball court, a community garden and a gazebo.

Palm Beach County PAL makes a difference
The Palm Beach County Police Athletic League’s San Castle organization usually has 25-30 kids signed up and a waitlist of kids wanting to join the fun. Some days that means going to the movies. Other days it means tutoring assistance. PAL recreation specialist Esther Mendoza says kids will arrive 15 minutes early in the summer in anticipation of a field trip to the beach or simply playing on the playground. “I love seeing kids at the center and using the space,” Mendoza says, adding that the program has led to improved school grades.
Winn-Dixie and historic waterfront dining
Lantana Village Square sits less than a mile from the neighborhood. A Winn-Dixie anchors the shopping center. In the neighborhood, Miami chain Snappers Fish & Chicken serves fried comfort food. Nearby Tropical Inn Pub is a dive bar where the bartenders know their customers by name. In Lantana is Old Key Lime House, a historic seafood spot on the Lake Worth Lagoon waterfront that opened in 1889.

Boynton Beach star students can study aerospace science
The Palm Beach County School District serves San Castle students. Younger students can attend Rolling Green Elementary School and Congress Community Middle School, which both earned a C rating from Niche. Boynton Beach Community High School, which earned a C+ Niche rating, offers an aerospace science curriculum in collaboration with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
