Central Bradenton offers cultural space, dining and homes
Central Bradenton sits along the Manatee River, offering a downtown atmosphere with parks, event venues and a mix of homes. The neighborhood contains cultural spaces like the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature. The Village of the Arts is a unique residential and business district that supports artists and other creatives. Outdoor venues and the dining scene complement the active community. "[The area] has more city life than the rest of Bradenton because of the downtown area. It's more lively and has a lot of restaurants," says Susan Harrison-Phipps, a Bradenton resident and real estate agent with Affordable Real Estate.
Buyers will find historic homes, condos and newer houses
Central Bradenton features homes with Spanish and Mediterranean influences, ranch styles and waterfront condominiums. The Village of the Arts contains several styles, from renovated bungalows and cottages to Florida Cracker homes. Harrison-Phipps says buyers are more likely to find new construction in Central Bradenton than in the city's western corridor. Houses built over the last five years are typically one-story dwellings reminiscent of the neighborhood's older homes. Prices vary as much as the community's architectural styles. Move-in ready residences under 2,000 square feet usually cost between $200,000 and $675,000. Larger homes near the waterfront can range from around $675,000 to $1 million. Condos sell from $150,000 to $425,000, while some townhouses on the Manatee River can list between $600,000 and $700,000.
Fun at Bradenton Riverwalk and LECOM Park
Bradenton Riverwalk stretches over a mile and a half, offering waterside views of the DeSoto and Green bridges. The area is a hot spot for afternoon strolls and fishing. Rossi Park, along the scenic route, has a splash park and a large field for outdoor gatherings. Bradenton Riverwalk also includes a skate park and playground area. The 9th Street West entertainment district contains LECOM Park. The baseball stadium is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Bradenton Marauders. The city and Manatee County plan to develop a new public recreational area, City Park, next to LECOM Park.
Visiting PIER 22 and shopping at Key Food Market
The downtown area has buildings occupied by local businesses, service providers and eateries. "There is a rooftop restaurant, Oak and Stone, in downtown on top of the SpringHill Suites hotel. It's beautiful and looks over the marina," Harrison-Phipps says. She also recommends the waterfront establishment PIER 22 and Michael John's, a steakhouse serving French American fusion cuisine. Multiple neighborhood restaurants serve Italian fare, including Taverna Toscana. Key Food Supermarkets Bradenton is the neighborhood grocer, but a Publix is nearby in the Westgate Shopping Center. The Red Barn Flea Market, on First Street, has vendors selling items from Friday to Sunday.
Traveling along the MCAT, the ferry or U.S. Highway 41
Manatee Memorial Hospital stands close to the river. The Manatee County Area Transit provides bus routes along major roadways, including Manatee and Ninth avenues. Residents board the Gulf Island Ferry, located downtown, for trips to Anna Maria Island; the ferry operates from Wednesday to Sunday. U.S. Highway 41, known locally as Tamiami Trail, borders the eastern side. Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is roughly 10 miles away. Taking U.S. Highway 41 across the water leads to Interstate 75 in about 10 miles. Downtown Tampa is an estimated 45-mile drive from the community.
Home to Ballard Elementary and G.D. Rogers Garden- Bullock Elementary
The School District of Manatee County serves local students. The community has two schools, Ballard Elementary and G.D. Rogers Garden- Bullock Elementary; both have C-plus ratings from Niche. Martha B. King Middle has a B-minus. The A-minus-rated Manatee High is the oldest public school in the city. Families can apply for school choice through the district's Controlled Open Enrollment application.
Visting local event venues for city-wide gatherings
Manatee Performing Arts Center offers ballets, theatrical performances and Broadway shows throughout the year. Down the street, the Mosaic Riverwalk Amphitheater holds city-wide gatherings like the Music in the Park series. Locals visit the Riverwalk for waterside races during the Bradenton Area River Regatta in February.
