Single-family homes and lakeside living
Subdivisions curve around the Dyes Inlet and branch north towards Island Lake. In 2015, single-family homes joined the mix of late 1980s and 1990s ranch-styles and new traditionals, resembling the preexisting styles in shape but with added Craftsman elements such as natural stones and paneling. “As you travel north, home values go up, and Silverdale is in the middle, so it hits a range of price limits,” Derrig says. Even within the neighborhood, prices vary based on location. Three-bedroom homes can list between $515,000 and $845,000, depending on proximity and accessibility to the water. Most homes fall within the mid $500,000 to $700,000 range, while new construction lists roughly between $575,000 and $1.3 million.Adventures from Dyes Inlet to Island Lake shores
Dyes Inlet allows for open access to the water along its southern border and Island Lake, to the north. Rocky shores make up part of Silverdale Waterfront Park, where jellyfish, crabs and fish swim in the saltwater below the docks. Children set sail on the park’s ship-themed playground while climbing the nets and rope bridge structures. Island Lake Park boasts 41 acres of lake where people can swim and fish off the pier for largemouth bass and rainbow trout. There are also launch zones for nonmotorized boats, canoes and kayaks. Walkers venture around the park’s 23 acres along tree-shaded trails with views of the water. The Clear Creek Trail’s 6-mile multiuse path is accessible within Silverdale Rotary Gateway Park’s 12 acres, where dogs can play off-leash in the designated area after a walk along the trail.Studies in the Central Kitsap School District
Central Kitsap School District serves the Silverdale community, which may include a start at Clear Creek Elementary School. Niche gives Clear Creek Elementary a grade of B overall, while Ridgetop Middle School receives a B-plus. Central Kitsap High School earns an A-minus grade and lets high schoolers earn dual credits through Central Kitsap’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the Running Start program, a tuition-free opportunity for juniors and seniors who take courses at Olympic College.Whaling Days in Old Town Silverdale
Since 1974, the annual Whaling Days festival has drawn crowds to Old Town Silverdale’s streets. This free summer festival raises money for local charities and scholarship funds for the Central Kitsap School District. Musicians take the main stage Friday through Sunday, serenading the crowd, which culminates with a fireworks finale. The event includes a 4-mile “Whale of a Run” event, a parade and a rubber duck race.Drives and ferry rides from Bremerton
Washington state Route 3 wraps around the west of Dyes Inlet, intersecting with Washington state Route 303, from the east. While WA-3 takes drivers north and south throughout Kitsap County, WA-303 is used to access the surrounding community. “Though many people are moving here, you don’t see much traffic,” Derrig says. Silverdale Way Northwest cuts through the neighborhood, connecting with the Kitsap Mall. Kitsap Transit bus stops dot the streets around the mall and extend down Silverdale Way Northwest. “It doesn’t appear that way, but Silverdale also has great access to Seattle with a sea taxi,” Derrig says. “You can head south and catch the Bremerton Ferry. It's amazing not waiting in traffic; you just walk on the boat.”Shopping at Kitsap Mall and dining local
Kitsap Mall has major retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Macy’s. A WinCo is attached to the mall so shoppers can pick up groceries, and Costco is nearby when buying in bulk. The Trails at Silverdale’s strip mall is stocked with box retailers, from La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings & Décor to Carter’s. Between the mall and strip mall, restaurant chains dot the neighborhood. For local flavors, The Oak Table Café dishes casual breakfast foods in classic and creative ways, such as pancakes stuffed with apples and cinnamon and dusted with powdered sugar. Nearby, Silver City Restaurant & Ale House is an award-winning establishment that plates pub fare and pours beers. “I always tell my clients to visit Silver City,” Derrig says. “Everything is good. You can’t go wrong with their pizzas, burgers or steaks.”
