East Bay community with a shopping center and numerous parks

Brentwood Center is unsurprisingly centrally located in suburban Brentwood, California. Only 1.5 miles from the city’s vibrant downtown, the neighborhood is organized around the Brentwood Shopping Center. Plus it provides easy access to regional trails and has views of distant Mount Diablo. Situated 55 miles east of San Francisco in Contra Costa County, the area has numerous green spaces, and the Brentwood Golf Club is nearby. “It’s a very family-friendly neighborhood. You’re walking distance from the elementary school and a park with a splash pad,” says KayLa Drake, a Realtor with eXp Realty whose team has sold over 150 units in the last two years.

Brentwood Shopping Center, farmers markets and international flavors

In the middle of the neighborhood, Brentwood Shopping Center has a combination of national and locally owned quick-service restaurants. A commercial corridor along Brentwood Boulevard has a Grocery Outlet and eateries like Ahzeetu Korean Bistro. The small restaurant serves marinated short ribs, rice bowls and several types of twi-gim, Korea’s version of tempura. Over a decade ago, three siblings founded Wrappin Chicken, a concept for naan, grilled meats and homemade sauces to make endless combinations of wraps. El Tarasco Taqueria has outdoor seating and quesabirria tacos. The Slatten Ranch Shopping Center, Brentwood Junction and Empire Shopping Center sit in a line 3.5 miles northwest of Brentwood Center. The open-air malls have stores like Target, Sephora, Winco Foods and more. The Brentwood Farmers Market is open on Saturday mornings year-round, just 1.5 miles away downtown. It features fresh cheeses, local produce and organic meats.

Parks for dogs and a Blue Goose

Blue Goose Park is home to a splash pad where children can play under giant flower water features or run through arched sprayers. Just behind it is a red barn-shaped playground with climbing structures and slides. Canopies shade picnic tables and barbecue grills, and large grassy areas let everyone play soccer or games of catch. Dakota Dog Park is split into sections for small and large dogs. This nearly five-acre green space has shaded benches and a half-mile walking path that connects to a more extensive trail system leading to Mallard Park. Bordered to the west by the Marsh Creek Regional Trail, Sparrow Park has a winding walkway that connects to the longer multi-use trail. A playground with a canopy rests in the park’s center and is surrounded by open grassy areas. The Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail parallels Grant Street as the neighborhood’s northern boundary. The multi-use path will run for over 300 miles when completed.

Contemporary designs from the 1970s through today

Brentwood Center is made up of single-family homes, apartments, and a scattering of condos, which were built between the 1970s and today. Many are contemporary styles, and some have Spanish-inspired elements like clay-tiled roofs and stucco exteriors. Others are more modern and have striking angles on multi-level facades. “Probably half the homes around here have solar capabilities, and half have pools,” says Drake. The neighborhood’s residential streets range from gently curved to gridded, but both border homes with tidy lawns and well-maintained green spaces. Homes sell for a median price of $875,000 after around three weeks. House prices range from $500,000 to $1.25 million depending on the square footage and lot size, while condos range from $525,000 to $625,000.

STEM fairs, band and career pathways

Mary Casey Black Elementary School hosts a yearly STEM Fair for preschoolers through fifth graders. At the same time, William B. Bristow Middle School has a music program that includes a choir, a wind ensemble and several bands. Both institutions earned a B-plus rating from Niche. A-minus-rated Liberty High School prepares students for life after graduation with eight career and technical pathways and a regional occupation program that leads to a Certificate of Proficiency after completion. Los Medanos College – Brentwood Center helps those wanting to earn associate’s degrees, take career and technical courses and complete transfer courses.

Community synagogue with nearly 40 years of service

Congregation B’nai Torah has been part of the neighborhood since its founding in 1988. The Reform Judaism worship center offers religious education courses to children and adults. The synagogue also hosts social events like bowling days, movie nights and pool parties.

Brentwood Boulevard, Highway 4 and train whistles

Getting around Brentwood Center is very straightforward. Sidewalks connect subdivisions together and lead to the shopping mall or elementary school. Bus routes, like 383, 384 and 391, and bike lanes run along major roadways like Brentwood Boulevard and Grant Street. Other significant streets include Garin Parkway, Sycamore Avenue and Sand Creek Road, which lead to Brentwood’s busiest thoroughfare, Highway 4. The highway takes people into nearby Stockton, Antioch or Pittsburg. Railroad tracks border the western edge, so people living next to them will hear whistles as the trains pass. There’s also traffic noise along Brentwood Boulevard during heavy traffic periods. The neighborhood is 4 miles from Brentwood Medical Plaza, 4 miles from Oakley, 10 miles from Antioch and 54 miles from Oakland International Airport.
