Small town with big ties to antiques world
Located right along a massive state forest that shares its namesake, Brimfield is a rural town widely known for its ties to the antiques world. Although residents enjoy the less crowded scene here, Brimfield is located almost exactly between the cities of Springfield to the west and Worcester to the east. The Massachusetts Turnpike, or Interstate 90, directly connects Brimfield to those two cities, each of which are about 27 miles away from the town. “I’ve lived in Brimfield for almost 40 years. It’s really nice. If you want to be close to the Mass Pike and Interstate 84, it’s centrally located,” says Amy Gerrish, a broker associate with Re/Max Professional Associates. “Sturbridge is a little closer to the Pike, but you pay more in taxes there and you don’t get as much land. People here, they want to have more of a small town feel and still be within 15 minutes of any amenities.” But rural comfort and convenient location aside, the town is perhaps best known for being home to the Brimfield Antique Flea Markets. The markets occurs three times a year and hundreds of dealers take up about 1.5 miles around U.S. Highway 20, which cuts through Brimfield. Celebrities who have attended the events in the past include entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey, the Olsen twins and even some well-known designers who were on the prowl for eclectic architectural pieces. “The antique show is definitely one of the draws here,” Gerrish says.
Homes on open lands that can hold animals
Many homes here are found in small clusters located along country roads. The town features Cape Cods with attached garages on large lots alongside Colonial builds. There are many smaller ranches, while some of the bigger homes with greater acreages can be found in the hills. Properties here can also provide enough spaces for animals like chickens and horses. Price points for Cape Cods and small three-bedroom ranches here can range from just under $200,000 to the upper $300,000s. However, prices for larger or more stately colonials on multiple acres can range from just under $500,000 to well over $600,000.

The Antique and Collectibles Capital of the United States
The antique flea market has been a town staple since 1959 and helped this New England town earn the title of Antique and Collectibles Capital of the United States. Hundreds of vendors show their wares to visitors from across the country, and keen collectors go on the hunt for rare and unusual items that over the decades ranged from paintings and furniture to even pieces architects look to use for windows.
Brimfield, particularly in its town center, also frequently hosts concerts on weekends and antique car shows on Friday nights. “There’s a lot of things to do here,” Gerrish says.
Adventures in the Brimfield State Forest
The 3,500-acre Brimfield State Forest offers more than 20 miles of trails for hiking or horseback riding, as well as some spots for fishing. To the east is the 2.8-mile Brimfield Rail Trail, which leads to the Quinebaug Cove Campground surrounding East Brimfield Lake.
