The Clifton Heights neighborhood provides a supportive, community-centric atmosphere in Brockton, the City of Champions, about 26 miles south of downtown Boston. “Brockton is an older city, and people give a lot of attention and pride to their specific neighborhood,” says Jose E. Perez, a team leader and broker at JEP Realty with around 20 years of experience in the city. “There’s a strong sense of community throughout Brockton, but it’s especially true in the Clifton Heights area.” Neighbors are often out in their front yards or porches, while children play and dogwalkers stroll throughout residential streets. Convenience is another draw, as the area rests within a few blocks of independently owned restaurants, stores and recreational spaces.

Supporting Brockton's family-owned restaurants
A collection of restaurants populate Main Street, including several that have been there for generations. Cape Cod Café has been a go-to for pizza in Clifton Heights since 1939, and The Italian Kitchen first opened its doors in 1947. Though not yet quite as established, Khalil’s Kitchen is a popular spot for both American and Caribbean food. The abundance of sidewalks here makes it easy for residents to walk to restaurants and nearby stores. Shaw’s, CVS and Vicente’s Supermarket are all in the neighborhood, and the Westgate Mall is within 3 miles. Westgate has a Lowe’s, Market Basket and Walmart. It also sits across Route 24 from the Good Samaritan Medical Center.

James Edgar Playground has a jungle gym, skatepark, baseball diamond and multiuse courts. The playground features a splash pad, and the town-owned Manning Pool offers another spot to cool off during the summer. Nearby conservation spaces include D.W. Seasonal activities in Clifton Heights and Brockton
The old Brockton Fairgrounds is a major stage for concerts, a farmers market and a free turkey giveaway before Thanksgiving. Clifton Heights has an annual Fourth of July parade as well, and residents often take part in city events like the Brockton Holiday Parade each November.
The Campanelli Stadium is not only popular for Brockton Rox ball games, but it also hosts concerts throughout the year. Another popular event venue nearby is D.W. Field Park, which hosts hikes, races and movie viewings. It throws the Annual Towerfest in the fall, where participants can enjoy food and drinks or overlook the colorful New England foliage from the top of the Observation Tower. Kids can also come out to the park for Family Learn to Fish Day, where many land their first catch.

Lima and Perez agree that these higher values make the neighborhood popular among first-time homebuyers and those who want to avoid Boston prices. “If you get something under $500,000 for a single-family, things move very quickly if it’s in good condition,” Perez says.
