Comparatively lower priced properties in the Bronx
South of the 112-acre Crotona Park, Foxhurst sits just west of the Bronx River and Concrete Plant Park, outlined by Interstate 278. The neighborhood appeals to residents who want city access for a comparatively lower price. “The Bronx ultimately is about double the space at half the price,” says Deborah Miller, a licensed real estate salesperson with Brown Harris Stevens, who has been selling in the area for four years. Foxhurst’s Bronx location offers convenience for Manhattan and Hunts Point commuters and for those traveling out of the city or upstate. “Foxhurst has easy access to the freeway, then you’re out of town very quickly,” says Miller.

HDFC co-ops starting in the $100,000s
Midrise brick buildings constructed in the 1910s are common throughout the neighborhood. While apartments make up over 75% of the total property mix in the neighborhood, there are scarce amounts of multi-family properties and co-op buildings. There are Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) cooperative buildings, which have restricted income requirements and are partially subsidized. A two-bedroom in a midrise HDFC co-op building typically goes for $100,000 to $200,000. A rare two-bedroom condo tends to sell for $250,000 to $450,000. Multi-family properties usually go for $750,000 to $1.3 million. The CAP Index gives Foxhurst a crime score of 6 out of 10, which is slightly above the national average of 4.

Subway access via the 2, 5 and 6 trains
“The Bronx, generally speaking, is usually five or so stops to midtown,” says Miller, “If you’re working at the Hunts Point Market area, this is going to be a good neighborhood in terms of your commute.” Multiple subway stations offer convenient connections to Manhattan. The neighborhood is serviced by the 2 and 5 trains, with stations at Freeman Street and Simpson Street. The 6 train is also accessible at the Whitlock Avenue and Hunts Point Avenue stations, offering a route to Grand Central Station. LaGuardia is located just 4 miles south across the East River. The BronxCare Hospital Center is also less than 2 miles north.
