Highbridge
Urban Core Neighborhood in Bronx, New York
Bronx County 10452

Mid-rise co-ops, colonial homes and brick townhouses
Mid-rise 1920s buildings with Art Deco touches mix with one- and two-family colonials and contemporary brick low-rise properties. It’s a neighborhood of renters, with just 5% of residents owning their home. The majority of homes in Highbridge are co-ops, listing for about $100,000 to $200,000. Many have income restrictions. Detached colonial single- or two-family homes and brick townhouses ask $450,000 to $900,000 and muiltifamilies with three or more apartments are priced at $1 million and up.A major park over the bridge, another to the south, and small green spaces in between
The High Bridge itself connects the neighborhood to a namesake park spanning 103 acres along the Harlem River in Manhattan. In addition to a natural forest and hiking trails, the park contains numerous playgrounds, a skate park, an Olympic-sized pool and rec center. At the neighborhood’s eastern edge, the sizable Reverend T. Wendell Foster Park contains soccer and baseball fields, playgrounds and a pool. Bridge Playground is a small but inspired playscape, and Nelson Playground offers ball courts, a splash pad and play equipment. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is in nearby Concourse.Public, charter and private school options
The elementary school P.S. 11 offers a dual language program and is rated C-plus by Niche. The Highbridge Green School for Grades 6 to 8, receives a C rating, and the Bronx Leadership Academy II High School is B-minus rated. Additional charter and private school options in the area exist.Local and express trains plus quick commutes for car owners
To get to Midtown Manhattan from Highbridge, it’s about a 40-minute commute on the 4 train at River Avenue and 167th Street. The Ogden Avenue or 168th Street bus connects to the B and D express trains at Grand Concourse, which reach Midtown in about 25 minutes. Interstate 87 runs along the west side of the neighborhood. Interstate 95, the Cross Bronx Expressway, the Washington Bridge and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge are all directly north, making commutes by car to Upper Manhattan and parts of New Jersey about 25 minutes.Dominican food, small businesses and a major retail center
Jerome Avenue on the neighborhood’s eastern edge is the major commercial strip. El Caldero serves affordable and celebrated Dominican food, and Don Sazon is a popular all-day spot for tacos, mofongo and more. LateMunch offers inspired comfort food with creative flair. The neighborhood has two Fine Fare Supermarkets and a large Food Bazaar for grocery shopping. In addition to the many small businesses that operate here, the mall-like Bronx Terminal Market, directly south in Concourse, is home to big box stores such as Target and Home Depot.Residents also have easy access to the Manhattan scene. "Once you cross the bridge, you land in restaurants," says Monica Cappelan, a Realtor with Sotheby's International. The Fort George neighborhood in particular is known for Dominican cuisine, juice bars and a food hall with multiple vendors.
