Historic Brookhaven offers luxury living in north Atlanta
Historic Brookhaven is one of Atlanta's most distinguished neighborhoods, known for its architecturally significant homes, a prestigious country club and proximity to upscale shopping. Many residents are members of the Capital City Country Club, a historical social institution dating back to the late 1800s that offers golf and social amenities. Adding to the neighborhood's appeal, Peachtree Road borders the area, offering easy access to premier shopping destinations such as Lenox Square. "There's this timeless appeal to Historic Brookhaven," says Lindsay Levin, Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties with over 10 years of experience. "The homes are of classical styles, there are beautiful tree canopies, there are blooms around the club. It's a beautiful place to go for a walk after dinner."
Architecturally significant homes in Brookhaven
Historic Brookhaven offers a well-established suburban setting characterized by gently winding streets lined with mature, shady trees. Houses are often set on small hills and might have professionally landscaped yards that provide ample space for outdoor living and entertaining. Many of the older properties from the early 20th century were designed by renowned local architectural firms. These custom-built mansions are typically made of brick, stucco or wood, including stately Colonial and Georgian Revival homes, sprawling French Provincial and Tudor Revival estates, as well as new mansions with contemporary designs. Estate homes generally sell from $1.3 million to $3.7 million, while smaller properties can go between $670,000 and $1.2 million. Condos are priced between $250,000 and $470,000, and townhouses can go from $460,000 to $1.2 million. "In general, the homes that are move-in ready are the ones that are selling in under 30 days, and those that need updating take longer to sell," Levin says.
Capital City Country Club anchors local recreation
The community is centered around the Capital City Country Club, which is a private club dating back to 1883. The club serves as a central gathering place for residents, offering social events and amenities such as an 18-hole golf course, tennis facilities and a swimming pool. "Many people move to Historic Brookhaven because of the club," Levin says. "It centers the community and is definitely a draw to homebuyers." To the east, Brookhaven Park offers sports fields, a playground and a popular dog park. Little Nancy Creek Park features a large playground and hosts community events like spring and fall concerts. Less than 5 miles north, Murphey Candler Park provides additional amenities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, sports fields for youth leagues and walking trails that loop around a lake.
Public and private schools offer strong academic options
The community is served by DeKalb County School District and Atlanta Public Schools. DeKalb schools include Ashland Park Elementary School and Chamblee Middle School, which get a B-plus and an A-minus grade from Niche, respectively. Chamblee High School scores an A and is rated by Niche as the No. 2 best public high school in DeKalb County. Chamblee High offers the Magnet Program for High Achievers, which provides a challenging academic curriculum for students. Atlanta schools include the A-minus Sarah Smith Elementary School, the B-plus Sutton Middle School and the A-rated North Atlanta High School. Both districts offer school choice. Private schools such as Galloway School and St. Martin's Episcopal School are close by, and both have an A-plus from Niche.
Upscale malls and local markets offer shopping variety nearby
Peachtree Road borders Historic Brookhaven on the south and leads to some of Atlanta's premier shopping destinations. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are both less than 5 miles away and offer a range of luxury retail and dining options. Target and Publix are nearby for groceries and daily essentials. The local farmers market, held on Saturdays from April to November, provides another option for fresh produce. Many restaurants are also close by, and the area has a diverse food scene. St. Cecilia is an upscale Italian eatery known for coastal European cuisine. Modern eatery Mission + Market serves global fusion and a brunch buffet on Sunday mornings.
Annual festivals celebrate Brookhaven’s cultural diversity
Brookhaven’s annual events blend culture and community. The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring with performances, blooming flowers and family-friendly activities. Held each fall, the Brookhaven International Festival showcases the community’s cultural diversity with global cuisine and live performances.
Easy access to highways, hospitals and public transit
Georgia state Route 400 is just to the west, connecting to nearby communities. Downtown Atlanta is about 10 miles south, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is 20 miles away. Many hospitals are within 5 miles of the neighborhood, including Northside Hospital Atlanta and Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. MARTA bus routes and nearby metro stations offer public transit options for commuters.
