Orchard Lake is popular for its value and proximity to Minneapolis
Just northeast of the Crystal Airport, Orchard Lake is a largely midcentury neighborhood in western Brooklyn Center , on the northern border of Crystal . Mark Callender, a Realtor at Re/Max Results, says it is popular with anyone looking to invest in its well-maintained properties while the getting’s good. “There’s a lot of well-priced homes there, and people go specifically for that,” he says. “But prices are going up.” Local demographics suggest it’s a younger area, with a higher concentration of children than the national average.
Ranch-style homes often have lower-than-average prices
The neighborhood is almost entirely residential, with neatly arranged lots on long, winding streets. Lots tend to be around a quarter acre, with most of their space dedicated to backyards. Single-car driveways and attached garages are standard, cutting down on street parking. Mature pine and oak trees shade lawns and the occasional sidewalk. Homes are overwhelmingly ranch-style construction from the 1950s. Prices range from about $240,000 to $380,000. The median price for a single-family home in Orchard Lake is around $310,000, lower than the Hennepin County median in the $410,000s.
Park Center High offers global learning in a suburban setting
Students in the area can begin at Fair Oaks Elementary, which has a B-minus from Niche. From there, they’ll attend Maple Grove Middle School, which has a B-plus. Finally, older students will enroll at Park Center Senior High School, which has a B-minus and is designated as an International Baccalaureate World School – one of only 21 in the state. The school’s Middle Years Programme focuses on making practical connections between the classroom and the real world. Minnesota offers an open enrollment program allowing qualified students to enroll in schools outside their assigned district.
Parks feature sports courts, walking paths and preserved woods
All three of Orchard Lake’s public parks have standard amenities like playgrounds and paved walking paths. Orchard Lane Park, the neighborhood’s largest park, has a baseball field and basketball court. The Crystal MAC Wildlife Area is popular with birders and other nature lovers just south of the neighborhood. Made up of preserved woods and wetlands, the facility features several paths and boardwalks to help visitors enjoy its natural beauty.
Basic goods and global flavors are in nearby shopping centers
Fast food, basic goods and services are available at Xerxes Avenue North and Shingle Creek Crossing. The neighboring community of Garden City has a Sun Foods Supermarket and a collection of restaurants. Billed as the “best seafood boil in Minnesota,” Captain Crab specializes in casual, Cajun-style fare with a nautical atmosphere. 102 Boba offers visitors a selection of Vietnamese coffees, milk teas, smoothies and more.
Orchard Lake connects to downtown via interstate and bus stops
Interstate 94 is Orchard Lake’s northern border and provides a direct route to Minneapolis , about 12 miles south. The Metro Transit offers public transportation throughout the Minneapolis Metro Area, and several bus stops line 63rd Avenue.
