As the name suggests, this neighborhood borders a pair of joined lakes collectively known as Twin Lake. The Twin Lake boat launch provides residents with lake access, though lakeside houses have their own private piers. The suburban streets hold stylized ranch and two-story houses with attached garages. Near the channel connecting the two bodies of Twin Lake is the headquarters of the Minnesota-based coffee shop Caribou Coffee. With the company's roastery on site, this Caribou Coffee location often tests exclusive specialty menu items not available in the rest of their stores.
Lakes, trails and parks are central to the Twin Lake atmosphere, but this neighborhood also has several popular shopping plazas with major chain stores like Walmart, T.J. Maxx, CVS and a considerable number of fast food restaurants. A few local eateries dot the neighborhood, while Sun Foods and Cub are go-tos for groceries. There are also industrial pockets with manufacturers and home repair specialists.
While Twin Lake's restaurant scene is largely limited to fast food chains, there are a couple notable exceptions. 50's Grill is a step back in time, serving up just-like-grandma-used-to-make comfort foods in a retro diner setting. Pick a tune off the juke box, then pick a classic dish like meatloaf or chicken pot pie followed by a slice of gourmet cake or an old-fashioned malt. If you'd rather have seafood, Captain Crab has an authentic seafood boil, complete with the restaurant's very own Captain Crab Boom seasoning.
The neighborhood has several elementary and middle school options for students, including Lakeview Elementary School and New Millennium Academy. Crescent Cove caters to children and young adults with a shortened life-expectancy. It is Minnesota's first and only home of this type designed specifically for children, offering a comfortable residence for kids in need.
Twin Lake's main attraction is in the name: Twin Lake. Boating, swimming, and fishing take place through the warmer months, shifting to ice fishing and lake-top excursions in the winter. At Twin Lake Beach Park, you'll find the trailhead for Twin Lakes Regional Trail, a 4-mile paved path that also runs past the Twin Lake boat launch. Another well-loved green space is Eugene H. Hagel Arboretum, a nature preserve teeming with deer, ducks, butterflies and much more along its trailways.
