Lakeland Park, located on the south side of Brooklyn Park, is a small suburban community with easy access to thoroughfares and shopping centers, just 13 miles northwest of Downtown Minneapolis. “One of the biggest draws to the Lakeland Park area is the affordability,” says Alex Negru, a local real estate agent with RE/MAX Results. “You’ll find lower prices here compared to other north Minneapolis suburbs like Maple Grove and Golden Valley, but you’re not giving up accessibility to downtown.” Community green spaces and sports facilities are within a short walk from many neighborhood’s homes, and public transit offerings are dotted throughout the area.

The ranch-style homes and bi-levels of Lakeland Park were built between the 1950s and 1970s, and most sit on quarter-acre lots shaded by mature oaks and evergreens. While the area’s streets don't have sidewalks, a lack of through traffic allows residents to walk to the nearby neighborhood’s parks and community gardens. All of the homes in the neighborhood are within a half-mile walk of the nearest park. The community’s namesake green space is home to a basketball court, a picnic pavilion, open field space and a walking loop. Southbrook Park has a wooded walking trail, picnic tables and a community garden where locals can rent seasonal plot space to grow their own produce. A short drive east, the 200-acre Palmer Lake Park is the largest natural area in Brooklyn Center, with picnic tables and over 3 miles of walking trails, that navigate to West Palmer Park, which has baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a soccer field and a playground.

Bottineau Boulevard lies just west of Lakeland Park and spans around 2 miles south to the Crystal Shopping Center, which has local and fast-food eateries, as well as a Target and ALDI. Los Sanchez is a popular local chain serving authentic Mexican fare with weekly karaoke nights. A few miles north, Angela’s Soul Food Kitchen specializes in classic southern-style comfort food, from fried catfish and barbecue wings to collard greens and mac and cheese. There are also numerous Mexican supermarkets in the area, including Supermercado y Panaderia Loma Bonita and El Hornito.

Metro Transit operates the bus routes throughout the Minneapolis and Saint Paul areas, with a handful of nearby stops along Hampshire Avenue. Interstate 94 borders the streets of Lakeland Park to the north and can take drivers roughly 13 miles southeast to Downtown Minneapolis. “A lot of people living in Brooklyn Park commute to Downtown Minneapolis for work,” Negru says. “And access to I-94 is a big draw. It’s also a great area for public transit.”
