Newer homes, proximity to parks and walkable schools

While many northern Brooklyn Park neighborhoods are mostly residential, Orchard Trail offers a mix of newer homes, parks and schools. If they're not in the neighborhood, schools are likely just across the street and still within walking distance. Meanwhile, nearby parks and trails range from a neighborhood park to a regional riverside park a few blocks away. The neighborhood also receives a CAP Index Score of 1 out of 10, the lowest possible score.

New Traditions built within the last 20 years

New Traditional homes built in the last 20 years line Orchard Trail’s curving streets. Large front yards have close-clipped lawns marked with lawnmower tracks and small flower gardens. While the architecture is similar to other neighborhoods in northern Brooklyn Park, the properties are bigger, offering between a quarter and a half acre of space. Homes typically range from $460,000 to $700,000. A few townhomes are available across the community, but stock is limited and they're rarely on the market. Recent sales were for $283,000 and $479,000.

Orchard Trail's neighborhood and regional parks

Brooklyn Park designed its neighborhoods and subdivisions so that residents are always just around the corner from a park. In the center of the neighborhood, houses back up to Orchard Trail Park and its playground, half basketball court and baseball diamond. Rush Creek Regional Trail is an almost 10-mile walking and biking trail stretching from Elm Creek Park Reserve to Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. “It’s a paved trail so it goes through the woods, and it has off-site stuff so you can do off-trail biking and cross-country skiing,” says Jeffrey Gagnon, a real estate agent with J.C. Gagnon Realty and a decadeslong resident of Brooklyn Park. “They keep them plowed over the winter.” A few blocks from the neighborhood, Mississippi Gateway Regional Park offers additional hiking and biking along the river, plus plenty of space to fish and observe the wildlife.

Public schools located within walking distance of Orchard Trail

Oxbow Creek Elementary School receives an A-minus from Niche. Located just across 109th Avenue from Orchard Trail, Jackson Middle School is within walking distance and receives a B-plus. It focuses on STEM education, with an emphasis on collaboration and interactive curricula. Champlin High School is located within the neighborhood and receives an A-minus.

Celebrations and festivals close to home

The Geeta Ashram Temple offers celebrations throughout the year for the various Hindu festivals, including Holi in March and Diwali in October. “Some of the developments will have their own little National Night Out thing, where people will bring out their grills and block off the street,” Gagnon says. Gagnon also says subdivisions can tell the city the date of their party and the firemen and police will join.

Driving around Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis

Compared to some neighborhoods in the area, Orchard Trail is farther from the major thoroughfares and highways that run through northern Brooklyn Park, adding to the neighborhood’s quiet, residential feel, but also leading to fewer public transit options. Downtown Minneapolis is about 15 miles south. Minnesota Medical Center is about 7 miles, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is about 28.

Nearby American and Mexican restaurants

Just north of the neighborhood, 5-8 Grill and Bar was originally founded as a speakeasy. Today, the local chain serves American fare like sandwiches, wings and burgers, including their staple, the Juicy Lucy, a burger with melted cheese in the center of the patty. Also in the area, El Toro Mexican Restaurant’s walls are covered with murals. For groceries, Cub is about 2 miles, and Hy-Vee is a mile more.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
