Skyestone’s outdoor recreation and nearby open spaces
Skyestone Park is one of the many amenities in Skyestone lending to an active community. “There are beautiful common areas that are landscaped and maintained,” Armstrong says. The pocket park also has a playground with swings for visiting grandkids, and pathways that connect to the area’s larger system of trails. The Lodge is the community’s recreation center, outfitted with a full-sized kitchen, movement room, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and courts for pickleball and bocce ball. The Lodge will also host weekly programs and over 30 clubs for residents to join, including clubs for hiking, e-biking and golfing.Roughly 2 miles east of the neighborhood is Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, which doubles as an 18-hole golf course and a nature sanctuary for wildlife species. The Westminster Hills Open Space is directly south of Skyestone and has miles of hiking and biking trails cutting through the rolling prairie lands. Even farther south is the Standley Lake Regional Park & Wildlife Refuge. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing are all allowed on Standley Lake, though swimming is not. There are also multiple campgrounds and hiking trails.
Celebrating the community through events
In addition to its active amenities, Skyestone has an event committee that hosts six to 10 social activities throughout the year. “It’s not always the same. One year they might have something for Oktoberfest, and the next year they do St. Patrick’s Day,” Armstrong says. “We do have quite a few potlucks, though, which is self-funded since people bring their own dish.” Live at the Lodge is a small concert series that brings in local bands to perform for the community.Traveling in and out of Skyestone
