Living in Brownstown Charter Township will give you a little bit of everything – it is a well-planned suburban neighborhood surrounded by a beautiful rural landscape and close to any retail you might need. “It’s a great area. People are very friendly, and there’s always a lot to do,” says Tabatha Kibat, a corporate Broker with EXP Realty.

The neighborhood is split into two sides: a heavily wooded area with creeks in the western portion of Brownstown, and condensed neighborhood streets in the east. US Highway 24 and Interstate 75 cut through the area and provide easy access for residents to drive to where they need to go. Over 11 miles north of the area, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport can be found off of Interstate 94. While the portion of the neighborhood along Interstate 75 is mostly made up of industrial warehouses, rows of homes are found all throughout Woodhaven.

Most homes in Brownstown Charter Township are within their own pocket subdivision. You can find Cape Cods and small ranch-style homes for around $150,00 to $350,000. Older split-level houses made with brick and vinyl are priced around $300,000, and large Craftsmen with pointed roofs and one-to-two garages are within a range of $400,000 to $450,000. Most properties in the area have well-kept lawns and driveways that attach to sidewalks down the street.

Families living in the neighborhood can trust the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District to give their children a good education. Erving Elementary School has a B grade on Niche, while Wegienka Elementary School has an A-minus. The Warriors at Patrick Henry Middle School can gain from the school’s A Niche grade and above-average test scores. From there, your child can attend Woodhaven High School. Ranked No. 8 in Best Public High Schools in Wayne County by Niche, the high school has an A grade, AP courses and work-based learning opportunities that can prepare your child for their future.

When you need a break, Brownstown Charter Township has several parks you can explore. Walk the trails at Thorn Park or cool off at its splash pad on hot summer days. Thorn Park also has a community garden on its grounds and a historical museum that used to be the Matin/DuChene farmhouse. Travel north on Highway 24 to get to Capital Park. Stretch your legs out on the walking track or open green space while your little ones play on the playground. Dawnshire Park and Prairie Creek Park are other great options for outdoor recreation. “There are a lot of parks in the neighborhood, and sometimes the community will host summer festivals and winter festivals at them,” Kibat says.

Residents in Brownstown Charter Township have a few places where they can shop for their essentials. Commercial businesses and restaurants are scattered all along Highway 24. Get your groceries at Meijer, or visit the Kroger located at the intersection of Highway 24 and West Road. The shopping area has a Dollar Tree, an auto parts store and several chain restaurants like Dairy Queen and Coney Island. For something more savory, visit Big Bear Lodge. The log cabin-inspired restaurant serves burgers and wood-fired pizzas – grab a bite and enjoy the deer antlers and rustic atmosphere. Three miles north outside of the neighborhood, Southland Center is an indoor mall with brand-name department stores like Macy’s and JCPenney. The area is surrounded by chain and local restaurants like Texas Roadhouse, Olgas Kitchen and Bubba’s. You can visit on the weekends to get all of your shopping done.

First-time homebuyers, families and retirees alike can all find something they like in Brownstown Charter Township that keeps them in the area. With a plethora of parks and restaurants nearby, you’ll always have something to do.
