Mills Estates offers a mix of ranch-style and midcentury modern homes built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Some were designed by famed architect Joseph Eichler, a pioneer of the midcentury modern style. Lot sizes are typically around a quarter-acre, so there’s plenty of room for pools, patios and landscaping. Adam Dobrinich, a Realtor with eXp Realty who has sold numerous homes in the area, says that while the surrounding area sees a decent number of remodels, Mills Estates attracts buyers looking for turnkey properties. “It’s highly sought after, and it’s definitely a higher price point than most of the city,” he says, noting that homes here generally sell between $2.5 million and $4 million.

Playgrounds and trails with Bay views
Cuernavaca Park sits at the center of Mills Estates, offering kids and residents a place to enjoy the breezy Bay Area weather. The playground is at the park’s highest point, offering a spectacular view of the Bay sprawling out below. Mills Canyon Park stretches along the southern edge of the neighborhood. Its forested slopes are crisscrossed with trails that lead to scenic overlooks. It’s also a wildlife refuge and popular birdwatching spot. Across the highway, Skyline Park has a large fenced-in area where dogs can run and play off-leash. For more difficult hiking and biking, the Santa Cruz Mountains’ impressive coast redwood trees are just a few miles away.

Young kids can start their education at Franklin Elementary School, which earns an A rating from Niche, before moving on to A-minus-rated Burlingame Intermediate School. Burlingame residents come together for Burlingame on the Avenue, a community event held in August that’s been running for nearly three decades. Local buses are also available close to the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, which is just a mile down Trousdale Drive from the neighborhood.
