Wellington-Harrington

Mostly multi-family properties
Homes in the neighborhood include Queen Anne, Victorian and colonial-style turn-of-the-century multi-family properties featuring one to three-bed units. Home seekers can also find low-rise brick condominium buildings built in the 1920s and modern, newly constructed properties with multiple condo units. Area condos range in size from around 600 to 1,700 square feet, and prices span from $485,000 for a one-bed unit to over $1.5 million for a penthouse with three bedrooms. "The price point here in Cambridge is pretty high, but Wellington-Harrington has some entry-level properties with good value," Feijo says.Brazilian stew to cannolis and everything in between
Many Wellington-Harrington homes are conveniently located within walking distance of the neighborhood's restaurants and shops, including the Royal Pastry Shop, where the cannolis are a top choice. There's also Vincent’s restaurant and wine bar, a popular corner spot where nearly every item is made from scratch, and Muqueca, a Brazilian eatery that serves a traditional seafood stew in stove-top clay pots. There are also several Italian, Indian and Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, but Taza Chocolate, a fair-trade chocolate shop that works directly with cacao farmers, is a can't-miss. For everyday shopping needs other than chocolate bars, residents can stop by Hampshire Market, a small shop that is well-stocked with basics, the neighborhood Dollar General store, or one of the nearby Whole Foods Markets for larger grocery runs.Local celebrations and marshmallow confections
The greater Cambridge area hosts several festivals each year that Wellington-Harrington residents can enjoy, including What the Fluff?, an annual festival in honor of the marshmallow confection invented in nearby Somerville. The event includes Fluff limbo, Fluff jousting and plenty of sticky treats.Pocket playgrounds and little league games
The area also has plenty of green space for residents to enjoy, including several pocket parks. Gannett-Warren Pals Park features a playground, picnic tables and a waterplay area in the warmer months, and Donnelly Field is a great spot to throw a frisbee or watch a little league game. The neighborhood is home to the Valente Branch of the Cambridge Public Library, where, in addition to a good read, visitors can borrow a bocce ball to use on the outdoor Bocce court in front of the library.Neighborhood elementary and middle schools
Wellington-Harrington children attend highly-rated Cambridge Public Schools, including King Open for the elementary years, rated a B by Niche, and Cambridge Street Upper School, rated a B-plus, for grades six through eight. Older students attend the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, a well-regarded high school with an A-plus rating and many notable alumnae, including the poet E.E. Cummings.Convenience is the name of the game
While most errands can be accomplished on foot, the neighborhood is served by several bus routes, and the Kendall / MIT Red Line subway station is about a mile away. "That area is accessible to everything," Feijo says. "Whether by bike or by transit, you can get to all points of Cambridge from there."
