Cambridge found in the center of Ohio's Appalachian Mountains
Settled in Ohio’s Appalachian Mountain range, Cambridge is the seat of Guernsey County and a regional resource for neighboring communities. People come from smaller towns in the county to shop at Cambridge’s supermarkets, send their kids to school or receive care at the medical center. "We're kind of the middle" of the region, says Jalil Carter, a local agent with Red One Realty. "We have a Walmart, which is kind of a big deal because none of the surrounding cities have a Walmart.” With a state park just 6 miles northeast and a local history, the area also attracts tourists. Cambridge’s 10,000 residents may come for the bigger city feel but stay for the recreational opportunities at the city park and annual community events.

Swimming, basketball and baseball at Cambridge City Park
Cambridge City Park is the city’s main green space, located on the community’s northern side. From the walking trails through the historic covered bridge and the playground to the seven baseball fields and Cambridge City Pool, the space caters to plenty of recreational activities. The City Park Armory on the eastern side of the park includes indoor basketball courts for the chilly winter months. Just 6 miles from Cambridge, Salt Fork State Park’s 15 trains wind through the region’s mountains and forests, along with six more trails just for horseback riding. Right in downtown, the National Museum of Cambridge Glass pays tribute to Cambridge’s industrial past. While the city’s main industries today are manufacturing for companies like Detroit Diesel and Colgate-Palmolive, Cambridge Glass used to be the biggest employer until the factory closed in 1958. Open from April to October, the museum displays over 10,000 pieces of Cambridge Glass in different colors and designs. The two gift shops also allow visitors to add more pieces to their collections.

Downtown Cambridge's local and longstanding restaurants and shops
Stretching along Wheeling Avenue, downtown Cambridge’s local restaurants and antique stores sit in historic brick buildings marked with personalized awnings. Open since 1931, Theo’s Restaurant is a local staple, serving a mix of American, Greek and seafood. “It’s the best food and the cheapest prices,” says Carter, whose father-in-law owns the restaurant. “They also cater to about 90% of the weddings” in the city and its surrounding counties. Most of the city’s supermarkets and fast-food restaurants are on the far south side along Southgate Road.
