Businesses are popping up so we’re getting more shopping too.”

Unique museums capture 200 years of history

Camillus has a rich history dating back to 1795 when the first house was built by the earliest settlers, and it’s still standing today at #3 Leroy Street. Another famous house in the neighborhood is The Wilcox Octagon House. Built in 1856, this unique residence is one of the last octagon homes left in the country and after being added to the National Register of Historic Places, it was restored to allow public access to all five floors. Now functioning as a museum, visitors can climb to the top for a view of Camillus. There are four additional museums in the area for locals to explore, including Sims Store, Martisco Station, School House #1 and an agricultural museum, all working together to capture over 200 years of the neighborhood’s history.
