Candler-McAfee is a suburb less than 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta

Only 10 miles east of downtown Atlanta, Candler-McAfee is an unincorporated community with big-city proximity and a suburban lifestyle. “It’s made up of a bunch of different subdivisions, so you get a diverse housing stock and a wide variety of prices,” says Adrianna Berlin, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Metro Atlanta who has sold several homes in the area. “It’s a good area for people who need a quick commute to the city but also want a less busy environment.” Residents can also enjoy the soul food restaurants along Candler Road and the area’s numerous recreational facilities, including the nearby East Lake Golf Club.

Midcentury homes, renovated properties and New Traditional builds

Candler-McAfee’s winding roads and cul-de-sacs are lined with three-to-four-bedroom midcentury dwellings. Brick façade ranch styles in the Columbia Valley neighborhood have carports, picture windows and flat roofs. Split levels in the Spring Valley community feature two-car garages and half-acre lots. “The older homes have good bones, but people are renovating them to look more contemporary,” says Berlin. “We’re slowly starting to see ranch styles transform into that white-paint, modern farmhouse style of house.” Homebuyers will also find homes built within the last five years. For instance, the Preston Park subdivision has Craftsman-style bungalows and Federal houses. A home in Candler-McAfee typically costs between $250,000 and $500,000, a range similar to a Decatur home’s average $300,000 selling price.
