The Whittier Park neighborhood is located on Canton's south side, adjacent to the intersection of Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 62. It is bordered by Harrison Avenue on the west and Danner Road on the north and encompasses just a few city blocks. Local restaurants, pubs and warehouses dot the neighborhood, and the J. Babe Stearn Community Center, a recreation venue, is just a few streets west. The neighborhood has several parks nearby. West Park, operated by Canton Parks and Recreation, is less than 1 mile east and has a skate park and baseball field. A smaller city facility, Myers Park, about 1 mile north, features a playground. The J. Babe Stearn Center is a few blocks west. “We have a basketball court and a weight room. Adults can use them in the mornings and evenings, and in the afternoon, we are the Boys & Girls Club. Local kids come, and they can get their homework done and play basketball,” says Bob Grier, who has worked at the Stearn Center for 30 years.

Events near Whittier Park
Every August, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend includes two parades, the NFL Hall of Fame Game, the induction ceremony, and the Concert for Legends, which has featured performances from artists including Aerosmith, Maroon 5 and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Palace Theatre, a popular venue for live entertainment and classic movies, the Canton Civic Center, home to sporting events and live entertainment and the Canton Museum of Art are all located downtown.
Baker’s Café 33 and downtown Canton
Locals can grab a burger at Flanagan's Pub, a popular neighborhood bar on Navarre Road Southwest. Baker’s Café 33, on Stark Avenue Southwest, serves steaks and over 20 varieties of pie. Downtown Canton is under 2 miles away and offers numerous shops and restaurants. StarkFresh, a non-profit grocery store, is one of them. “We grow microgreens and mushrooms here and go to Amish auctions to get locally grown food. People who get SNAP benefits get half off of produce. We carry a full range of grocery products and sell everything at break-even prices,” says Douglas Colmery, the development director for StarkFresh. Many residents head to Belden Village Mall, 7 miles north, for shopping; it’s also a popular destination for dining and entertainment.

Whittier Park students have several school choices
The Canton City School District serves southwest Canton residents with Cedar Elementary School, rated a C-minus on Niche, for kindergarten through third grade. McGregor Intermediate School, which scores a B-minus, teaches students in fourth through sixth grades. Crenshaw Middle School earns a C-minus and offers art, piano and career technical courses. McKinley Senior High School scores a C; its students can enroll in seven Advanced Placement courses and participate in sports such as golf, swimming and football. Students can also choose to attend Beacon Academy or Stark High School, which are neighborhood charter schools. In addition, Heritage Christian School, a private Christian school about 1 mile north, offers preschool through eighth grade and accepts Educational Choice Scholarships.
