Accessible living in Polk County

Avon Lake is an unincorporated Polk County community that is within comfortable proximity to downtown Des Moines. The heart of the neighborhood is a small residential setting around two area lakes, with rural homes, expansive fields and commercial agricultural facilities occupying the rest of the landscape. This laid-back community relies on commuting into the neighboring city, Carlisle, for access to outdoor recreation grounds, grocery stores, restaurants and schools. “Avon Lake is a really quiet and small neighborhood, and most of it is mainly industrial,” says Jenn Ho Goh, Realtor at Realty ONE Group Impact servicing the greater Des Moines metropolitan area. “The upside is Avon Lake’s residents can attend Carlisle’s small schools, which have a smaller teacher-to-student ratio.”
