Suburb in Carmichael near the American River
Suburban Larchmont Riviera East skirts the American River about 11 miles from Downtown Sacramento. Carpenter James W. Marshall reported finding glimmers of gold in this riverbed, sparking the California Gold Rush of the 1840s. While modern homebuyers are unlikely to find gold here, they will discover scenic trails in the western end of the neighborhood. “Larchmont Riviera East is extremely convenient and located right next door to everything you need,” says Tyler Monk, Realtor with Dunnigan Realtors, who has lived and sold in the area for over 20 years. “You have the beautiful river trails; the highway is close by and it’s a very historic part of Sacramento.”
Craftsman- and ranch-style homes
Larchmont Riviera East’s sidewalk-lined streets have modern Craftsman-style and contemporary ranch-style homes from the 1960s and ‘70s. These three-to-five-bedroom houses have cross-gables roofs, shaded front porches and shrubs or flowerbeds lining their foundations. Most sit on lots under a quarter-acre with well-manicured yards large enough for a mature cypress, redwood or oak tree; driveways lead to two-car garages and there’s room on the street to park RVs. Prices range between $300,000 and $650,000 depending on the number of bedrooms and square footage.
Larchmont Riviera East is for anyone seeking a home in a family friendly neighborhood.

Albert Einstein Middle earns a B-minus from Niche and has a robotics competition team and a media production elective class. At B-rated Rosemont High, students can join the Engineering, Construction and Design (ECD) Academy, a three-year pathway exposing them to different career options through project-based experiences.
Freeway and light rail access
The El Dorado Freeway is a mile south, leading 11 miles west to Downtown Sacramento. Folsom Boulevard is the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, running diagonally from southwest to northeast. Interstate 80 sits about 10 miles north; it leads further west to the San Francisco Bay Area and northeast toward Reno. Running alongside Folsom Boulevard is the Sacramento Transit light rail system that carries passengers downtown. Its buses serve the area, but most residents here use their cars to get around. Bike lanes skirt a handful of residential streets, and bike-friendly trails border the American River. Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center is 7 miles northwest, while Sacramento International Airport sits further northwest.
Tennis, pickleball and American River access
Riviera East Park, located near residential streets and the Mira Del Rio Drive River access point, offers two playgrounds, picnic areas and tennis courts amidst a myriad of trees. Residents can also play basketball here – on the only public court in the neighborhood – and rent out the park for parties. Fourteen-acre Larchmont Community Park is popular with pickleball players, and kids can use the large open space for football or frisbee. The park also has picnic areas and a multi-use baseball and softball field. Kayakers and anglers can head to Gristmill Recreation Area on the southern bank of the American River to access the water; hikers can hit the trails here and families can enjoy barbecues.
