A private lakeside setting in the Snoqualmie River Valley
Lake Marcel is a private reservoir and residential community in a forested, natural setting in the Snoqualmie River Valley. It came to be in the 1960s when the area around the man-made lake was developed. The majority of homes here are occupied year-round by permanent residents. The Lake Marcel Community Club (LMCC) is the area homeowners association.
Quiet living and outdoor recreation are a big part of life here, but residents must travel outside the community for shopping, entertainment and jobs. Small cities within 7 miles are Carnation to the south and Duvall to the northwest.
1,000s of rainbow trout, keeping the lake clean
The lake is a habitat for birds, fish, mollusks and other wildlife. Lake Marcel's private beach parks are reserved for LMCC members and their guests. "The homeowners association is run by volunteers. The focus is on keeping the lake clean," says Carla Geraghty, a broker with Re/Max Northwest who lives in the community. Low-impact gardening and lawn care are encouraged. Suggestions include native plantings, rain gardens to direct runoff and limiting pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. The lake's water quality is routinely monitored.
Fishing is permitted in accordance with Washington State regulations: Those 15 and older need a license. HOA fees go toward various community services, including stocking the lake with thousands of rainbow trout once a year. There are storage areas for small boats. Watercraft with combustion engines are not permitted on the lake.
The community of Lake Marcel is centered around a large, man-made lake by the same name.

Lake Marcel Community Club events, a nearby medieval village
The LMCC meets monthly online. There's also a monthly meeting for community events. Geraghty says the Fourth of July celebration is the community's biggest event. An annual garage sale also takes place in July. The LMCC creates a trick-or-treating map for Halloween. In December, the Christmas Boat Float and Santa event is held at Beach One. That beach also has hosted Lake Marcel Market Day for artists and crafters in the community to sell their handmade treasures.
East of the lake, off Kelly Road Northeast, is Camlann Medieval Village, a living history museum inspired by 14th-century England. The village is open seasonally, but the Bors Hede Inne restaurant is open year-round, Fridays through Sundays. This unique dining venue recalls a rural inn. Several festivals are held at Camlann, including a May Festival, a Midsomer Festival and a Harvest Festival.

Many of the homes date to the 1970s and 1980s. These include split-levels and ramblers from the mid-$600,000s to mid-$900,000s. The 1990s brought contemporary and traditional homes, most over 2,000 square feet and ranging from the high-$700,000s to $1.6 million. New arrivals in the 2020s include spacious custom homes with designer features for up to $1.7 million. "It's a draw to be by the lake. Homes on the lake will cost more, for sure," Geraghty says. Many home sites are wooded and between a quarter- to a half-acre, providing plenty of privacy.

Outdoor recreation including hiking on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail
People also visit Lake Joy and the Snoqualmie River for outdoor recreation. Swimming, kayaking and standup paddleboarding are popular. And there are plenty of places to hike or explore the wilderness. The Cherry Creek Falls Trailhead is about a 5-mile drive north of Lake Marcel. The hike is about 5 miles round trip and includes a waterfall stop. South of Lake Marcel, there's a portion of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, a rail trail about 30 miles long, which runs from Duvall to North Bend.

"They typically have a different band every Friday and Saturday night," Mayor Ribail says. "We have festivals that bring people from all over." Timber! is an indigenous-owned music festival held at a densely forested outdoor venue, 574-acre Tolt-MacDonald Park. BrodieNation Music Festival began in 2006 and has been held at a property on the Tolt River nicknamed "Club Tolt." Both are multiday music festivals with camping held in July in recent years.
Downtown Carnation has businesses such as a hardware store, a tattoo shop and The Blue Iris, which sells vintage goods and collectibles. Pour House Pete's is a bar and grill with a rustic style. For groceries, there's the Carnation Market, which is part of the IGA brand. Geraghty says that many Lake Marcel shoppers go to Safeway in Duvall.
