Carson City Center is the heart of Nevada’s capital
Carson City Center is the heart of Nevada’s capital city. This neighborhood anchored by downtown Carson City boasts eateries, watering holes, local shops and even a couple of cigar bars in the vintage buildings around North Carson Street. Neon signs from a few small casinos brighten up the district at night, while the area accommodates events like occasional wine walks. The neighborhood is also home to branches of state government, as seen by the block of Neoclassical and Italianate structures between East Fifth and East Musser streets.
Marina Mancilla, an esthetician at the Firm Cryo Spa and Wellness Center, says her friends back home liken the area to a Hallmark movie setting. “I like downtown Carson City because there’s a feeling of a community. I appreciate the fact the downtown has a small-town vibe. It’s quaint, it’s unique. The people are friendly, and they make conversation with you,” she says.

From ranch-style homes to upscale builds
Beyond the downtown, the neighborhood consists of residential blocks where mature trees hedge properties and shade walking paths. Ranch-style homes are common here, while other parts of the neighborhood feature a mix of Craftsman bungalows, larger homes with Colonial Revival touches and even a few Victorian builds. Depending on size, many homes go from just over $300,000 to nearly $700,000. However, some with footprints over 3,000 square feet fetch around $1 million.

The park is also home to the Carson City Community Center and aquatic facility. Trailheads on the western outskirts of the community lead to hikes up C-Hill, a landmark with a visible American flag and letter fixed onto its eastern slope. The hill provides views of both the city and the Sierra Nevada range.

Outdoor concerts and embracing Murals & Music Festival’s urban art
The Brewery Arts Center hosts outdoor concerts, with its performers ranging from the usual rock bands to flute and string players. “It’s a variety of music. I don’t think they keep it to a specific genre. It’s kind of an eclectic selection,” Mancilla says.
Residents also live close to a myriad of city events. Among the newest events is the Murals & Music Festival in September, which occurs at various spots across the city but finishes with a concert in the neighborhood’s Brewery Arts Center. The event is a must-go for urban art fans, and Native American and ranching culture are just a few of the subjects depicted. Since 2023, the event has led to the addition of over 40 murals.
