Cary is packed with events and connected to Metra

Cary is a thriving suburb once home to a Borden Dairy bottling plant; the town has traded in some of its industrial sector for residential development growth. The downtown area maintains a small-town atmosphere and connects residents to the greater Chicago area by Metra commuter rail. Cary is full of events and local dining establishments that strengthen its community.

Events come to Cary's Main Street year-round

Yearly events come to Main Street in Cary. Cruise Night in the summer highlights classic cars, from Mustangs to convertibles. The Merry Cary Holiday Parade is a family favorite that turns Main Street into a festive extravaganza complete with a petting zoo, sleigh rides, cookie decorators and caroling. Beth Repta, a proud Cary local and Realtor with the Repta Residential team of Keller Williams Success Realty, says that “Cary Main Street Festival is one of the bigger events in town.” The Main Street Festival happens on a weekend in September and comes with live music and local vendors to browse.

Cary hosts manufacturers and unique local dining spots

Cary’s leading employers are manufacturers, including Stryker and True Value. It also has a strong food service presence. Conscious Cup Coffee is along West Main Street and serves craft lattes like Seventh Heaven mixed with caramel, chocolate and hazelnut. For a fuller dining experience, right next to Conscious Cup are the multi-course meals at 750 Cucina Rustica. Start with their wine-poached pears, then move to the lobster ravioli with vodka sauce. In the evening, head to Cary Ale House, a gastropub and brewery. It has a selection of over 85 beers and a menu that pairs each style with indulgent bites like a BBQ pork sandwich on a pretzel roll with melted cheddar and apple slices. The Cary Village Square Shopping Center is on Cary’s west side and easily accessible via U.S. Route 14. The shopping center hosts a Jewel-Osco regional supermarket and several chain eateries. For a local recommendation, Joel Sawyer, the Adult Services Manager at Cary Area Public Library, says, "Many library patrons mention Uncle Jerry's Pizza or the Cary Ale House Pub/Brewery in downtown Cary for great places to eat."

Cary-Grove football and the Performing Arts Centre

Cary-Grove Community High School is rated an A on Niche and brings the community together in the fall. Repta says, “We love our state-champion football team at Cary Grove High. The Friday night football games here are very popular; it’s like Texas without the weather.” Other public schools in Cary include four elementary and one middle. Cary Community Consolidated School District No. 26 hosts elementary and middle schools like Deer Path Elementary and Cary Junior High, both rated a B on Niche. After classes, artistically inclined kids can learn at the Cary-Grove Performing Arts Centre, over 650 students come to learn dance, music and acting. Classes are offered for adults and children as young as two. Students here can even combine disciplines with dancing and singing to Broadway music. There's synergy between Cary's schools and the library, as Sawyer says, "We work with local schools to advertise our growing Spanish language section for children and adults, as well as provide tours of how the library can fit into the life of the student for school classes coming into the library."

Residential growth since 1960, with new constructions still coming to town

Most of Cary’s residences were constructed after 1960, and nearly half were built in a housing boom between 1980 and 1999. While ranch and split-level homes are ordinary, new builds are still popping up for those who want more contemporary styles. Subdivisions to the east are laid out in classic suburban style with cul-de-sacs, while the west features a more sprawling design that still features neat streetside landscaping. Along the neighborhood’s southern border are homes plotted near the Fox River. Single-family homes in Cary range from $240,000 to over $480,000, varying by the lot size and square footage. Repta says, “Apart from single-family homes, there’s not a ton of condos in Cary, but there are some townhouse communities.”
