Small town charm near New York City
Located at the heart of Long Island’s South Shore in a region known as the Five Towns, Cedarhurst is a quiet residential village within the town of Hempstead with a tight-knit community culture and a strong sense of community. “Cedarhurst has a small-town charm and is known for its excellent schools, peaceful neighborhoods and local pride,” says Mark Lipner, a licensed real estate broker with Berkshire Hathaway. Over the past twenty years, a significant number of Orthodox Jewish families have moved into the community, bringing a wealth of synagogues, private schools and kosher restaurants to Central Avenue, which bustles with activity on Friday afternoons before the restaurants and shops close for the sabbath.
Colonial homes on quiet streets
The quiet residential streetscapes throughout Cedarhurst are lined with cherry trees and well-maintained sidewalks. Locals can walk dogs and push strollers past their neighbors’ manicured lawns and gardens, admiring the ornamented front porches and decorative landscaping common to homes throughout the community. The housing market consists primarily of colonial-style homes — including center hall colonials, modern colonials and Dutch Colonials — along with the occasional split-level and Tudor homes. Prices in Cedarhurst are well above the median price in Nassau County, typically selling for $800,000 to $1.6 million, though Cedarhurst’s low tax rate offsets some of that cost. Home buyers should be aware of local flood zones, as certain parts of the community are located in low-lying areas near Motts Creek and Woodmere Channel.

History, recreation and fun in the sun
Andrew J Parise Park welcomes visitors to enter through its wrought iron archway, an image that inspired the cover of many local magazines and almanacs. The park is home to a touching memorial to veterans and the victims of the September 11th attacks born and raised in Cedarhurst, along with a playground, green space and splash pad. The park’s gazebo hosts dances, festivals and a popular summer concert series. During the summer, locals can drive 5 miles east to Atlantic Beach, play 18 holes of golf at Inwood Country Club, or watch a movie at Regal Lynbrook Theater.

Clean, high class, family friendly. Expensive to live in because it is so close the city and good property.
