Forest Park is only 15 miles from Denver’s epicenter, but 40-year local Linda Nixon knows that residents rarely venture into the city. “We moved to the suburbs because we liked the quiet,” she says. “It’s just a nice, kept-up, private area, and that makes it special.” Families with school-aged children are drawn to the region for its esteemed school district, while others are attracted to the neighborhood’s strong sense of community. “The people you meet here, you end up staying friends with them for a lifetime. Brunch, golfing, movie nights. It’s a very personable neighborhood.”

Many ranch-style houses scattered throughout Forest Park offer a midcentury modern feel, while others lean toward Tudor style with cross gables and steep roofs. Tucked into cul-de-sacs along South Detroit Street, locals can spot mature evergreens and maple trees beside neat, narrow sidewalks. Colonial Revival and Craftsman homes with three to six bedrooms range in price from $500,000 to nearly $1 million. Townhomes found in covenant-controlled communities like Highland View or Otero Ridge are priced anywhere from $350,000 to $600,000. Most residents have driveways dividing their small gardens or manicured lawns. But ample street parking, as well as parking lots, can be found within larger townhome developments.

Students in Forest Park can attend Littleton Public Schools, an accredited district consistently outperforming the state average. Sandburg Elementary School earns an A- on Niche and offers enrichment programs in specialties ranging from chess to theater. A nationally recognized school of excellence, John Wesley Powell Middle School earns an A on Niche and encourages electives like digital media and space odyssey. Arapahoe High School ranks the same. The school’s open campus policy allows students to leave the building for lunch and during off-periods. Aspen Academy, located in Greenwood Village, earns an A+ on Niche. This private institution is known for its award-winning faculty and wide catalog of extracurriculars. Over the weekend, students and families can bask in the many recreational activities Centennial has to offer.

The South Suburban Parks and Recreation District contains over 100 parks, and DeKoevend is a regional favorite. Two miles north of Forest Park, DeKoevend’s trail loop, multipurpose fields and free little library attract folks from across the suburbs. Forest Park’s own Arapaho Park has fields, courts, a playground and shady trees to settle under for a picnic or gathering. Close by is the South Suburban Golf Course. Tee off on the 18-hole regulation course and grab a snack at the South Suburban Bar & Grill, located onsite. The Forest Park community pool is open to residents paying dues to the Homeowners Recreation Association. The Forest Park Blue Fins, a local youth swim team, use this outdoor pool for practice.

Conveniently positioned off Route 177, South University Boulevard, Forest Park allows easy access to an array of retail and dining options via car or public transportation. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus line stops at Southglenn Square, a multi-building shopping center featuring restaurants with globally-inspired cuisine. Try Japanese soda and sushi for two, served on a miniature wooden boat, at Taku Sushi. Mono Mono Korean Fried Chicken offers an authentic Korean menu, including fusion items like Kimchi fries. And Fuzzy’s Taco Shop serves Baja-style Mexican fare with its signature Butt Burnin’ hot sauce. Across the highway, residents can shop for groceries at King Soopers, or follow Route 470 to Highlands Ranch for Target and Safeway.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
