Newly established city just outside Birmingham
Before it was incorporated as a city in 2002, Center Point was a small town nestled between the tail-ends of the Appalachian foothills just outside downtown Birmingham. Today, the city is busy with big box stores and chain restaurants, but its small-town feel remains the same. Residents of Center Point socialize with old friends at family-owned restaurants and look forward to the seasonal farmers markets in Reed-Harvey Park. Local and longtime realtor with Keller William Metro South Realty, Jeff Dorough says, “With Center Point being just east of Birmingham, you’ve got all the shopping and downtown action close by. It’s a great neighborhood, with lots of nature and friendly people.”
Single-family homes in Center Point’s rolling hills
Split-level and ranch-style homes were built between the 1970s and 1980s on the rolling hills in Center Point. Most houses sit on sloping half-acre lots with long paved driveways leading to attached garages. Tall pine trees line spacious backyards and provide residents with a sense of privacy without being too far from their neighbors. One of these single-family homes with three bedrooms usually costs between $100,000 and $275,000. Some new traditional homes built in the early 2000s are neatly organized in cul-de-sac communities in east Center Point. With backyard mountain views, these more contemporary homes list for around $400,000.

Reed-Harvey Park is Center Point’s newest addition
Reed-Harvey Park is Center Point’s most recent revitalization project, extending over 17 acres of open green space around a natural spring. During the summer, locals can attend free movie nights at the amphitheater or fish in one of the park’s three lakes. Located off Pinson Valley Parkway, “Jefferson State Community Park is a pretty, simple park,” says Dorough. “People like to go there for a nice lunch outside.” Nature lovers can hike alongside gushing waterfalls and dive in the swimming hole at the nearby Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.

Big box stores and local restaurants on Center Point Parkway
Center Point Parkway is the neighborhood’s main shopping and dining corridor, with a mix of big box stores and local businesses. Residents can shop for everyday essentials at the Walmart Supercenter and head to Grikey’s Meat and Market to find fresh-cut meat and local produce. Chain restaurants like Applebee’s and Waffle House are scattered among the family-owned restaurants on Center Point Parkway. Whether it’s an authentic Mexican street taco at Tienda Carniceria y Taqueria Fiesta, a hot chicken and waffle from Zatie’s or a surprisingly good Philly cheesesteak at the Asian Kitchen, this busy street has something to satisfy every craving.
Summer events at Reed-Harvey Park
During the summer, Reed-Harvey Park is a local entertainment hub with free movie nights and live music performances at the amphitheater and weekly farmers markets. The park hosts Center Point’s annual Festival of the Springs in April with various homemade foods, arts and crafts, and family-friendly entertainment. At the beginning of October, the city’s National Night Out is an annual event intended to strengthen the relationship between residents and local law enforcement by bringing the community together in a carnival-type atmosphere.
