Suburban perks next to natural park space
A seemingly rural town tucked away near Harriman State Park, Woodbury maintains suburban flair thanks to the popular Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets. “People from out of town drive to Woodbury for the state park and the outlets,” says Kim Chiapperino, an Associate Broker with RE/MAX Benchmark Realty Group who used to live in Woodbury. “And it’s always been a highly desirable area for families.” Top-rated Monroe-Woodbury public schools and private, resident-only parks give the community a family-friendly atmosphere. While there are thousands of acres of quiet, scenic forests and lakes surrounding Woodbury, the action in New York City is only 55 miles south, the commute made easy by Interstate 87 conveniently weaving through town.

Public Harriman State Park and private Earl Reservoir Park
Harriman State Park, which takes up most of Woodbury’s east side, is a huge attraction for nature enthusiasts. With 44,000 acres of lakes and hiking trails through the forest, this park features sandy beaches, campsites and wildlife from black bears to beavers. Silver Mine is a hiking area with a boat launch onto Silver Mine Lake, and in the winter, the huge hill turns into a sledding locale. On the west side of town Earl Reservoir Park, known locally as The Rez, is a private recreation area for Woodbury residents only with a sandy beach, play areas and paved walking trails. “The Rez is a big draw for families,” Chiapperino says. “They also do a kids’ camp there and live music nights by the beautiful lake.” The Parks Department just renovated the John P. Burke Memorial Pool, which features a water slide and kiddy area. Golfers head to Falkirk Golf Club, which offers memberships but is more well-known as a picturesque wedding venue.
