Shopping sprees at Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets
A popular shopping destination, Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets is an open-air mall with more than 250 stores. In addition to name brands like Gucci, Nike and Columbia, visitors can eat at the several dining and fast-food options at the outlets. For a more local dining atmosphere, there are a few restaurants along New York State Route 32, which runs parallel to Interstate 87 through Woodbury. Iron Chef of Central Valley provides a Japanese hibachi experience surrounded by pristine landscaping. The Woodbury Diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and nearby, A Better Place is a watering hole with beers on tap and burgers on the menu. Cosimo’s serves brick-oven pizza alongside classic Italian comfort dishes. For quick grocery runs, the west side of town has Stop & Shop and kosher-friendly Grand Food Market. For larger hauls, there’s BJ’s Wholesale Club, Target and Walmart near Woodbury Commons.Townhomes in Highland Mills and new Farmhouse Colonials
Housing styles and price points around Woodbury vary from smaller, multi-family complexes to large, historic estates. Contemporary- and colonial-style townhomes in the Highland Mills area offer back patios, about 1,500 square feet of space – some with single-car garages – and prices are typically set from $305,000 to $410,000. Foursquares, raised ranch homes and colonial-inspired houses in both the Highland Mills and Central Valley sections often sit on more than a half-acre of land, featuring multi-car garages and pristine landscaping. These 1,500- to 4,000-square-foot single-family homes generally range between $425,000 and $980,000. More spacious Colonial Revivals with Farmhouse influences that were newly built within the last 5 years, many sitting on hills with mountain and valley views, have price tags from $1.2 million to $1.5 million.Public Harriman State Park and private Earl Reservoir Park
Harriman State Park, which takes up most of Woodbury’s east side, is a huge attraction for nature enthusiasts. With 44,000 acres of lakes and hiking trails through the forest, this park features sandy beaches, campsites and wildlife from black bears to beavers. Silver Mine is a hiking area with a boat launch onto Silver Mine Lake, and in the winter, the huge hill turns into a sledding locale. On the west side of town Earl Reservoir Park, known locally as The Rez, is a private recreation area for Woodbury residents only with a sandy beach, play areas and paved walking trails. “The Rez is a big draw for families,” Chiapperino says. “They also do a kids’ camp there and live music nights by the beautiful lake.” The Parks Department just renovated the John P. Burke Memorial Pool, which features a water slide and kiddy area. Golfers head to Falkirk Golf Club, which offers memberships but is more well-known as a picturesque wedding venue.Highly ranked athletics in Monroe-Woodbury schools

Private schools in the area mainly consist of Jewish-based institutions in the neighboring village of Kiryas Joel. Sharei Torah – V'Yoel Moshe serves kindergarten through twelfth-grade students. The village of Kiryas Joel
Neighboring Woodbury on the west side, Kiryas Joel is a village in which the majority of the population is Hasidic Jewish residents belonging to the Satmar sect. There are several Orthodox synagogues in this area, and residents primarily speak Yiddish. Within Woodbury, Congregation of Eitz Chaim was founded as the first Conservative synagogue in the county, embracing a more modern Jewish way of life. There are also Christian-denomination churches throughout the town, including St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.Cruising I-87 into New York City
Interstate 87, which runs right through the center of town, allows residents a 55-mile commute into New York City. “And there’s now trains and busses that go straight into different areas of the city,” Chiapperino adds. The Coach USA bus system picks up passengers along New York State Route 32 and at Woodberry Commons. Just south of this shopping area is a train station in Harriman, where the NJ Transit train lands at Penn Station or Lower Manhattan in a little over an hour. For further travel, the New York Stewart International Airport is about 10 miles north of Woodbury.
