A a unique mix of urban and suburban living
Like its blended name, the City of Charlack offers a unique mix of urban and suburban amenities. The name “Charlack” is derived from its location at the intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and Lackland Road. This tiny neighborhood in northwest St. Louis is home to about 1,300 residents. Niche ranks it one of the most diverse suburbs in Missouri and one of the suburbs with the lowest cost of living in Missouri. Residents are tight-knit and protective of each other. When the local police force was founded in 1945 with just two officers, residents requested, and were granted, additional support by two other neighboring forces. That small act contributed to a reputation for the safety and care of one’s neighbors that continues today.
Most homes in Charlack are early 20th-century cottages and bungalows, as well as a few ranch-style homes. Becky Harrington, Realtor with RE/MAX, and a St. Louis real estate agent for more than 20 years explains Charlack’s assets, “We have a mix of owners and renters here, as well as a mix of ages. Buyers include professionals, longtime homeowners and young families. Homes here are reasonably priced for the area, but they do reflect the historic value of many of the homes. People who like to renovate older homes and put their own touches on their homes will enjoy living here.” Streets are quiet, but as it is older and urban, you won’t find many sidewalks. Charlack’s location provides quick access to many conveniences including dining, shopping, parks and interstates.
